The study nicely illustrates how @nanopore overcomes Illumina's errors, which often arise from difficulties aligning reads in repetitive (left) and variant-dense regions (right). "The work thus heralds a new era, in which Illumina short-read sequencing no longer rules supreme."
“This important study shows how a combination of the latest generation of @nanopore long reads with state-of-the art variant callers enables bacterial variant discovery at an accuracy that matches or exceeds the current "gold standard" with short reads” https://t.co/a6VBNoYFDw

As a found some male Euophrys frontalis jumping spiders today I had to do some video of him doing his courtship dance! Quite tricky to do these out in the field as they are tiny and often on the move so handheld is the way…

Love to see more high-quality reference genomes of species generated within the country of origin, especially in countries like Madagascar that contain tremendous biodiversity

Our preprint is out! We hacked the @nanopore sequencer to read amino acids and PTMs along protein strands. This opens up the possibility for barcode sequencing at the protein level for highly multiplexed assays, PTM monitoring, and protein identification! https://t.co/hVdNFa7ti4

The ability to sequence single protein molecules in their native, full-length form would enable a more comprehensive understanding of proteomic diversity. Current technologies, however, are limited...
