Babcock was asked directly what his ask is. "If you want to compete near the top of the ACC, our budget needs to be $200 million."

Babcock said he doesn't plan on doing this job for many more years, but everyone at Virginia Tech needs to change its mindset from a challenger brand to a champion brand.

Babcock: "I'm not after anyone here. I'm not mad or blaming anybody. ... Am I frustrated we have to change the funding model? Sure. ... We must move quickly regarding athletics, simply because outside forces have dictated what's at stake." Asking for alignment on this front.

On Tech's budget, Babcock said, "Our resources don't match our expectations."

Babcock's breaking down the economic impact of Virginia Tech athletics on the region. Said the adjusted number is $94 million per year. As an example, if VT doesn't leap forward and 10,000 fewer fans show up for games, that could be a revenue hit to the region of $15 million.

Babcock: "If we don't radically leap forward now, we're likely sealing our own fate for years to come."

He follows that up with a "discretionary budget analysis" which notes VT is No. 9 out of 9 public institutions in the ACC and there is a $31M-$57M gap in discretionary budget for VT vs. Top 3 in the ACC. #Hokies
