The Brewers will not be wearing their customary Friday home game City Connects tonight. They have not — and try to not be flabbergasted by this — arrived from Fanatics and Nike yet.

“To our Fans:
I first want to thank you for your continued support of the great game of baseball. This past season, we were reminded of how as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame.”
Dana Rettke.
Five time All-American.
National player of the year.
National champion with the championship kill.
She's gotta go down as one of the greatest of the greatest collegiate athletes ever to play in the state of Wisconsin.
Chucky Hepburn, a freshman with the possible national player of the year on his team, wanted the ball in his hands and hit one of the biggest shots in Wisconsin basketball history. Kid is special.
What a moment. The entire Brewers team is standing in the dugout for Caleb Boushley’s on-field interview. And the entire town of Hortonville is right behind them after Boushley, a 29 year old rookie, gets the win with 2.1 innings in his MLB debut for his childhood fave team.
It’s a shame that Jonathan Taylor, the greatest rusher through three years in college football history and who has played for two New Year’s Six bowl teams, couldn’t get one Heisman invite in his career.
Baseball news has been Not So Good this week, so let’s shake up that trend a bit.
I’m excited to announce I’ll be moving to the Brewers beat at the Journal Sentinel. Grateful for all the people that helped make a dream of covering Major League ball a reality. Let’s ride, MKE.
The Phillies win. That’s all, folks. Milwaukee misses the postseason for the first time since 2017. After the hottest 50-game start in franchise history, the Brewers crumbled. There will be no bites of the apple in 2022.
Since Game 7 of the 2018 NLCS, the Brewers have had 98 runners reach base via hit, walk or hit by pitch. They have scored 17 times. Another brutal output from the bats in the postseason, there's no way around it.
Game 3 of the World Series. A week after Brent Suter closes out Game 7 of the NLCS. Christian Yelich steps to the plate but there’s drama because his return means NLCS MVP Ben Gamel has to sit. The plot thickens.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, *one week* after hyperextending his knee, just went out and put up 42 points on 15-22 shooting, 12 boards, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks on the road in his second career NBA Finals game.
The Bucks did not win, so it may get forgotten. But it shouldn’t.
So today, Baseball Savant released video of each pitch thrown in MLB since the beginning of 2018. Naturally, I did the right thing with such info at my disposal.
Here is a quick cut of every Christian Yelich homer with the Brewers. Enjoy.
Caleb Boushley attended UW Fox Valley out of Hortonville High School and played club ball there for two years before attending UW-La Crosse. Now he’s going to make his MLB debut in the park where once he skipped work at the YMCA to go watch Ryan Braun hit a walk-off homer.
How about a moment to acknowledge the bounceback year Christian Yelich had now that it’s wrapped. Put together a 4 WAR season once again and then reached base six times in 10 playoff plate appearances with a 1.225 OPS.
Since last year, three ground balls have been hit to Willy Adames in extra innings with only the zombie runner on second. All three times, he’s gotten the runner out at third base. The Brewers have won each game by one run.
It’s the Willy Special.
Garrett Mitchell said he got the call from Nashville Sounds manager Rick Sweet around 11 pm last night but missed it.
Was he asleep?
“I was eating a chocolate chip cookie.”
The Brewers had not had a single three-hit game from a right fielder all season as of this morning.
Sal Frelick did it in his first three big league at-bats.
Milwaukee Brewers top prospect Jackson Chourio will make the team's opening day roster, according to a source. The 20 year old will make his MLB debut next week.
Story:
Sal Frelick, current King Of Milwaukee: “I just really want to come here and be that spark plug.”
The only downside to Frelick’s debut? His mom couldn’t be here today because she had to watch the family dog.
Big news out of the Brewers clubhouse via Corbin Burnes: He and many others on the team plan on joining Joey Wiemer and rocking mullets if the Brewers make the playoffs.
According to Baseball Savant, CB Bucknor’s called third strike on William Contreras in the ninth was the widest miss on any called third strike to end a game with the tying run on base, at bat or on deck this year.
Devin Williams has pitched five times in the last eight days. Each outing has been in a tie game or with a one-run lead.
5 innings. 0 runs. 1 hit. 1 walk. 10 strikeouts. With no margin for error, Williams has been almost flawless.
Uribe recovers nicely, striking out DJ Stewart and Starling Marte, and the Brewers sweat out a 7-6 victory over the Mets.
Rhys Hoskins was the story today, and Uribe is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities.
That was.....odd.
Bryce Harper stood there taking the entire way on five straight pitches against Hoby Milner, seemingly like he was daring a junior varsity pitcher to throw a strike. Then on pitch six, he struck out looking on a fastball down the middle.
The Brewers make a huge splash at a position of need, signing Rhys Hoskins to a multi-year deal. Can’t imagine many better fits for Milwaukee on the market. First reported by

The Brewers had 17 base runners last night and scored 3 runs. According to Stathead, they are the first team to put that many men or more on based and score no more than 3 runs in a playoff game since 2011.
William Contreras ended up with the top WAR season from a Brewers catcher not named Jon Lucroy ever. He led all MLB catchers with 5.5 fWAR (13th best in MLB), slashed .291/.369/.459 and was top 5 with 14.1 framing runs.
He may have been the best off-season pickup in baseball.
Freddy Peralta almost started crying after Brice Turang’s grand slam. The TV showed the reaction of Turang’s mom and it reminded him of his mother’s reaction during his emotional first start in 2018.
“It was kind of the same thing with my my debut.”
Here’s the list of players to hit 7+ homers in a season against St. Louis since 2013:
-Christian Yelich
That’s it. That’s the list. And he did it in four games.
Josh Donaldson spoke highly of how seamlessly he's acclimated to the Brewers and vice-versa: "There can't be enough said of how the guys have really made me feel comfortable here. And being plugged into the lineup of a contender regularly, I don’t take that for granted."
Christian Yelich was not named to the initial All-Star Team.
If you're the type to make comparisons...
Yelich: .273/.370/.438, 123 OPS+, 10 HR, 18 SB, 3 OAA
Lourdes Gurriel: .269/.319/.487, 118 OPS+, 13 HR, 1 SB, 0 OAA
Brandon Woodruff says he hasn’t had any conversations about his future with the Brewers yet, but: “I’ll make this clear…my hope is that I’ll be a Brewer for a long time.”
Brandon Woodruff just now on
@FoulTerritoryTV
: "I'm not speaking for him, but in terms of how I feel about it, he's going to do everything he can to stay in Milwaukee."
“That’s why I got called up I think in the first place. It wasn’t to just throw me in the lineup and say a prayer. It was to really impact the game.
“I didn’t come up here trying to dance around that, either.”
Sal Frelick, in 3 days in the bigs, can directly be tied to 2 wins.
Since June 2, the Cincinnati Reds has lost as many games to the Brewers (eight) as the rest of the league combined. They have two wins against Milwaukee and 25 versus everyone else.
Good morning. Corbin Burnes now leads all Major League Baseball starters in:
-fWAR
-ERA
-ERA+
-DRA
-FIP (second-best mark ever)
-K%
-K-BB%
-HR/9
-CSW%
-OPS against
-xSLG
-xwOBA
-and more
That is all.
Brent Suter just entered the game against his former team, and the Brewers played The Raptor’s entrance music he used during his time with them: The Theme From Jurassic Park
Forgot to tweet this out earlier at the park but asked William Contreras after the game when he’s going to take a day off. He’s caught 12 games and DH’d the other 2.
“Thursday,” he said. “When we have an off day.”
The man actually wants to try and play all 162.
Potential Brewers lineup as it stands:
LF Yelich
SS Adames
1B Tellez
C Contreras
DH Winker/Hiura
3B Urías
RF Taylor
2B Turang
CF Mitchell/Frelick
Important to note Contreras is still pre-arb eligible, so the Brewers should still have room to work w/ $ and add another bat.
Final: Brewers 4, Braves 3
The drama. The unadulterated, chaotic, crazy, irreplicable drama of this sport. Find me a better game than base ball. You can't.
The record: 55-44
Baseball America’s Top 100 prospect rankings lists Jackson Chourio at No. 3. The players ahead of him—Gunnar Henderson and Corbin Carroll—will likely graduate from the list early in the ‘23 season.
When that happens, the Brewers will likely have the No. 1 prospect in baseball.
One of the buses headed to the park today carrying the Brewers encountered an issue: Roads were shut down and traffic was at a standstill with Pres. Biden in town.
So a group of players hopped off the bus and followed Hoby Milner as he navigated the subway system to Citi Field.
Ben Sheets, four-time all-star and owner of one of the most underrated pitching seasons in the 2000s, will be inducted into the Brewers' Walk of Fame this season.
Josh Hader picked up career save No. 100 today.
"He's four and a half full seasons," Craig Counsell said. "No reliever has had a better start to his career than Josh Hader in the history of the game. I'm not exaggerating. That's a fact. I don't think it's really disputable."
Most Double-A homers by a teenager in a season according to
@fangraphs
database, which goes back to the start of the 2006 season:
1. Jackson Chourio - 17
T2. Tatis Jr. - 16
T2. Stanton - 16
T4. Profar - 14
T4. Vladdy - 14
Players simply do not do this kind of thing often.
In which Joey Wiemer causally discusses his insane throw and drops wisdom.
“The days you can’t hit, throw some glove. The days you suck in the field, hit a bomb.”
