Terry McLaurin on why he, Chase Young and Dwayne Haskins wanted to say something to Joe Burrow before he left the field: "Still got that Ohio State brotherhood... Under that jersey, you still got that Block O close to your heart."
Alex Smith will be cleared for football activity tomorrow, per source. That means he’ll be coming off the PUP list at that time. Quite a remarkable turn.
This is difficult. As an Ohio State alum I loved what Dwayne Haskins did for the school. As a reporter getting to know him and talk to him many times and getting to know those close to him it’s really tough, knowing the devastating impact on their lives. So young. So damn sad.
WR Jahan Dotson said he was ready to skip his graduation at Penn State tomorrow; didn't want to miss practice. But he said Ron Rivera told him he had to go. So he's going.
Terry McLaurin said he asked the official if he was lined up ok. Said the official told him to move up. So he did. Looked at the official; McLaurin said he told him he was good.
Chase Young on people talking about him having a similar impact as Sean Taylor: "Don't even put me in that sentence with him...Sean Taylor is one of the greats. I don't even deserve that yet."
Am told The Washington Football Team is aware of the social media posts with Dwayne Haskins at a strip club, allegedly after Sunday's game. They've been in contact with the league; Washington is handling internally. Do believe Rivera is trying to keep the focus on Carolina
Terry McLaurin described his emotions about what's happened the last couple years, including Haskins' death. "I've benefitted from seeing a therapist... Makes the load a lot lighter when you don't feel like you're carrying it alone." Said a need to always show grace, empathy.
Former ODU QB Taylor Heinicke brought gifts for some teammates today. How thoughtful. He left an Old Dominion shirt in the locker of former VA Tech players Logan Thomas, Joey Slye and Kendall Fuller.
With Landon Collins on IR, Washington had an opening for a captain. Ron Rivera said that after practice players unanimously voted Terry McLaurin as a captain. "A very well-earned honor," Rivera said.
Rivera: “Biggest thing is we have to move forward from this & make sure everybody understands we have policies that we will follow and that we have an open door policy with no retribution. Plus my daughter works for the team and I sure as hell am not going to allow any of this!”
Chase Young: "We didn't get a sack today, but our defensive line dominated. I don't know how many rushing yards they had but it couldn't have been much."
14 carries, 21 yards.
Ron Rivera: "If we can grow and get better and add on pieces, we have a shot next year. We will be fun to watch. I'm just glad we were able to get the DMV something to cheer about. I promise you one thing: We'll show up and we'll play hard."
Dwayne Haskins out on the field at the cart. He and Chase Young and Terry McLaurin go to the cart to say something to Burrow, their former OSU teammate.
Have seen a lot of bad games here. This... might top them all. Players asked for a full house. Fans showed up. Playing an 0-4 team going through a lot of chaos. And yet... this. This is unreal.
Ron Rivera said they received better than expected news on TE Logan Thomas. Said the tests this morning DID NOT confirm their worst fear, which was a torn ACL. he will have further evaluation to further confirm. But don't know true extent yet
Ron Rivera on a message to the fans now: "the biggest message is we need you all. ... We're playing the division leader twice; this is the first one. We need all hands on deck... let's roll."
They won. enjoy it. Don't worry about style points. Don't worry about whatever the Eagles did or didn't do. ... Was not pretty; still 7-9 with an NFC East crown. Beats losing to the Giants in 2016 on the final day, I'm sure. ...
Saahdiq Charles: "I wasn't sure where I would go, but I ended up in the right spot. They believe in me. For that I'll give the Redskins' organization everything I've got."
Washington has renamed a main road into FedEx Field after late safety Sean Taylor and changed the name of the road leading into the practice facility to Joe Gibbs Drive. Taylor was killed in 2007; coaches and teammates say had just started that season...
Rivera on Eagles decisions: "I'm not going to apologize for winning.... Nobody complained when Pittsburgh did what they did against Cleveland. We got in the playoffs. You apologize for losing in the playoffs, but you don't apologize for getting in. it was a hard road for us."
Terry McLaurin on his chase down: "I was just trying to make a play. But when the defense got that stop is when I felt, Wow that was a big play. That's what you've gotta do when you're a leader on the team. You have to set an example and never give up on any play."
Allen on Heinicke starting: "Coach Saban used to always say the team decides the starting quarterback. Every time he comes in & plays the team rallies around him, the offense rallies around him. You can't really understand it, you can't really explain it. It just is what it is."
The DC Attorney General's office emailed reporters regarding a press conference tomorrow where AG Karl Racine will "make a major announcement related to the Washington Commanders."
Jaret Patterson on the name: "It's the Washington Football Team, but this team is the Washington Redskins to me because I've been watching them since I was little...In my heart it'll always be the Redskins, but it's kind of cool getting a new name. I kind of like a new era..."
FWIW: The league told the Redskins that, yes, there should have been a pass interference penalty called on the deep ball to Josh Doctson. That will not make anyone feel any better.
Terry McLaurin said he regretted throwing the first TD into the stands. Was Howell’s first TD pass. McLaurin said they negotiated with the fan who caught the ball, going to give them a signed Howell ball.
Chase Young on "wanting Tom Brady: "I'm excited for every game. Tom Brady? You think I won't be excited to play against the goat? You trippin. I'm not going to apologize for saying I want Tom."
Up until an hour ago, the Commanders handled the Brian Robinson situation with so much care, sincerity and class. And I was so grateful for all of it.
Although I know that there are some great humans in that building, whoever is hiding behind this statement is not one of them.
Redskins tackle Trent Williams just wrapped up an 18 minute presser. Said the growth was cancer. Said he no longer trusts the organization. Said felt waiting until last minute to Try to trade him was vindictive. Said has nothing against Dan Snyder. More coming later...
Taylor Heinicke was asked if he could change people's minds about the starting QB job: "I don't think that's an option. You're paying someone 30 million and someone else 2 million. You're paying this guy 30 million to play. I hope [Wentz] succeeds. My job is to back him up."
Terry McLaurin on surpassing 1,000 yards on the last series.
"literally everybody on the sideline was like, we're going to get this for you. We're going to block our ass off for you. it made me a little emotional; it's a testament to the guys that we have in this locker room."
