Wondering what bridges have to do with the web? This talk is for you. The analogy is solid and the implications are relevant. May also be a little biased bc this is my nephew.

Any ideas what this is? It is growing on a root of Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanese) which was cleared and stained with trypan blue. Plant was grown in greenhouse in sterilized soil and I am assuming it is some kind of fungal pathogen. Thanks for any thoughts!

Thanks @NYT for this Q&A. But I don't think saviour narratives are appropriate ways to frame a kingdom of life. Intro also misrepresents a recent paper I was part of by overstating the role of fungi in C cycling. Fungi are important & neglected organisms. But let's avoid hype.
