Training with light loads does have one advantage: it allows lifters to increase their volume loads proportionally more over the course of a training program. This may then allow greater workloads in later blocks of training with moderate loads.

Some strength training experts have argued that long total repetition durations (slow tempos) can be used to increase muscle growth. This is probably not the case (but lengthening the eccentric phase specifically may have benefits)
