Day 5 of covid isolation… came downstairs to feed the rabbits and surprise! There’s been a Christmas miracle, the two girl rabbits are in fact NOT girl rabbits and we now have baby bunnies. It’s added some excitement to the evening. 😳🐰🐰🐰🐰

The teaching profession serves the community. The concern about schools opening face to face is because people are worried about that same community and the spread of Covid. It is NOT because teachers are lazy or don’t want to be there. Please can the media report responsibly?

I’ve just met with school leaders dealing with RAAC. What they are doing and having to do is beyond belief and yet they are being creative, finding solutions, being innovative literally overnight. They are the ones who deserve our thanks. They are remarkable once again.

Was fortunate enough to watch my dad meet the Queen in 2002 when she told him how much education matters and what an important job it was. She understood what it was to lead and to serve others. After my dad died in 2020, my mum kept this in her purse until she died in April. 🙁

Tonight I was reading lots of depressing news when I realised the house was quiet. My 9 & 11 yr old had taken themselves off to read The Christmas Pig, reading a paragraph each out loud to each other. I can hear their giggles and discussion. It’s more uplifting than the news. 🥹

I hope that the media recognise today that we’ve never had a cohort like this- who had exams stopped in 2020, lived through uncertainty and then do exams after all of that for the first time. They deserve our encouragement and support. What an incredible cohort.

Thinking of Heads of 6th, RSLs & students today as they get their results. This cohort didn’t sit GCSEs in the usual way, so these are their 1st formal exams. It’s easy to forget what they have been through. Staff will be celebrating and supporting them brilliantly today.

The DfE and OFQUAL representatives both apologise to young people. Although this has all happened in a frantic way, causing great distress to many, I think it is good to see they are saying sorry and admitting they made a mistake. That is a start.

I’m grateful that I’ve been brought up watching leaders like Tim Brighouse and others of his generation – who were not afraid to speak out, where convicted about what they believed, who were change makers and giant battlers but did it all with heart, humanity and humility. 👇🏻
