Unless they knew the patient had Covid, standard protocols for intubation do not require a mask. Me personally though (CRNA) Iโll grab one bc I donโt like secretions in my face.
@RNSuperHero
The irony is that before covid, they wouldโve probably worn a mask. The antimask sentiment has permeated every part of society, even to the point where common sense doesnโt prevail.
@RNSuperHero
Can we start suing HCPs who donโt follow common sense protocols and wind up infecting patients? Or the hospitals that allow this? Iโve worked with infection control teams and this is 100% preventable ๐ตโ๐ซ๐คฌ

Anesthesiologist here- I always masked (surgical mask) for floor intubations even before Covid. ESPECIALLY if we donโt know why a pt is in respiratory failure. Now I always wear n95. No one is going to protect me except me.
@RNSuperHero
Haha and to think we were intubating under plexiglass boxes and clear sheets at the beginning of all this when we could have just been giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. /s
@RNSuperHero
Barrier infection control has been in place for decades. They work. If itโs wet, itโs infectious. Wash your damn hands between patients. Not just a squirt of sanitizer. Put something between you and the wet stuff. Donโt carry it around.
@RNSuperHero
The last time I intubated without a mask, the patient threw up into my face. Iโve been pretty good about remembering ever since. That was 2015 I think?
