Measuring what matters is hard unless the metrics are tied to a vision and strategy grounded in that vision. Unfortunately, vanity metrics make people believe they are being data driven!
Yesterday an MBA student tried to make the case that "utility" was a reasonable metric for customer satisfaction. I'm still sad.
