🚨 New in @NatureComms: We present a spatial multi-omics platform that maps the metabolome, lipidome, and glycome from a single brain section. Combining MALDI imaging with our computational tool Sami, we reveal metabolic diversity in health and Alzheimer's disease. 🔗

6/ This work opens new frontiers in spatial systems biology—we can now map metabolism across regions, conditions, and diseases using a unified platform. Adaptable to other tissues and disease models. We believe this approach will accelerate hypothesis generation in spatial

5/We applied the method to WT and Ps19 tauopathy model brains. → Found regional metabolic rewiring in the isocortex and cerebellum. → Ps19 cortex shows elevated glycogen and altered TCA, glycolysis, and carnitine metabolism.

4/Sami enables dimensionality reduction and anatomical clustering, helping everyone make sense of the hundreds of millions of pixels examined by spatial metabolomics, aligning omics signals with brain regions like cortex, CA3, and corpus callosum. → We show that metabolism alone

3/This triple-omics approach is powered by our custom software Sami (Spatial Augmented Multiomics Interface), which co-registers datasets, integrates features across modalities, and performs clustering + spatial pathway analysis.

2/ what is the barrier currently? There is a lack of spatial and unified multi-omics workflows—metabolomics, lipidomics, and glycomics are typically performed separately, often in pooled samples across facilities. We designed a sequential workflow that enables spatial
