A thread: The dangers and irresponsibility of using reported race on census and vital records to determine Indigenous identity in the age of "Pretendian" allegations. The woman in my profile picture is a Wamapanoag woman named Zerviah Gould Mitchell (1807-1898).

A police officer on Long Island was arrested for his role in running a sex trafficking ring. George Trimigliozzi, 55, has been named "Cop of the Month" several times in his 18 years as an officer. This entire system is a cesspool.

Embracing Black culture is cool. But embracing the people, especially mixed Black/Native relatives is a lot cooler.
Saw a lot of footage from Indigenous Peoples Day rallies around the country. It's amazing how widespread hip-hop has become. Native people have always been very racist, specifically toward Black people & so it's interesting to see an open embrace of Black culture by Natives.

If you’re from the Northeast, you definitely have seen Cody in the circle. This young man hardly misses a powwow. Such an inspiration!!!
My nephew Cody has Cerebal Palsy & couldn't walk when he was younger. He loves powwows so much that he became a Northern Traditional dancer. He dances every intertribal, round dance, exhibition & even comp. He inspires me to sing for those who can't & for those who need healing.

Good to see my bro Irwin Trott & the Gombey Dancers from Bermuda here at the powwow. Most people don't know that many of the 1st enslaved Africans to come to New England were trades for Native folks captured during King Phillip's war. It's how the 1st enslaved Africans got to MA.

I will never back down in speaking truth to power. The apartheid government of Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians. Palestinians will not be erased. Solidarity with all those outside of these walls in the streets protesting and exercising their right to dissent.

I won’t attend Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech today. His military has reportedly killed over 39,000 Palestinians. He hasn’t brought the hostages home. He hasn’t made Israel any safer. We need tangible actions to end this war and all the suffering – not performative gestures.

Netanyahu is a war criminal committing genocide against the Palestinian people. It is utterly disgraceful that leaders from both parties have invited him to address Congress. He should be arrested and sent to the International Criminal Court.

I know a lot of people are going through it right now and could use some good medicine, so I'll be singing powwow songs for people later. If you'd like me to include someone in the prayers and songs, reply or DM me.

When we say "crime is a social construct", what we mean is that you, as an individual, can go to jail for littering, but a corporation can poison the air, the soil, and the water of an entire town, and no one will go to jail.

Nearly 12,000 acres of land in Minnesota have been transferred back to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe who have cultural and spiritual ties to it, which is a move that reverses a land seizure by the US Bureau of Indian Affairs in the 1940s.

Why have I grown critical of @SecDebHaaland? On 6/24 I got an email from one of her handlers, deflecting a UN domestic Indigenous human rights inquiry to two other Departments. Its disingenuousness caused me to learn more about and reflect on her record over the last three years.

@elevennames @Quinobequin9 not really In 1811, “a Cape di Verde Portuguese Negro” known as Michael Douglass married Mary Boston, the widowed sister-in-law of Nantucket mariner Absalom Boston. Born around 1766, Douglass had resided on Nantucket since at least 1809.

And our people, Indigenous tribes of so-called southern New England have been intermarrying with Cape Verdeans for centuries - by working together on the whaling ships and other maritime industries and later cranberry bogs. 🇨🇻

Y'all do know that when you bring up blood quantum to invalidate people whose citizenship is based on lineal descent that you're doing more damage to Native sovereignty than any amount of harm someone's government certified blood can do, yes?

Seeing @lily_gladstone talking about Fancy Dance and thought I would add some additional context. So, before Fancy Shawl as it is most commonly referred to was born, there were women fancy dancers. My grandma Claudette (Moore)Morris was one of them.
