Thank you, thank you, thank you to the great folks

"And ... for my daughters... I admit that I did not always get the [work/motherhood] balance right... but I love you so much."
OMG. I feel this in my bones.
Y'all. Justice Sotomayor can count votes. She knows where this is headed... either viability is gone or Roe is gone.
Her questions are for the public... to let us know that abortion isn't the end. It's just beginning of the unraveling of these other rights of intimate life.
Narrator voice:
1. The King and Queen of England are divorcees
2. The House of Windsor was until WWI the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha because they were German (before that it was the House of Hanover--also German)
3. QE2's husband, Philip, was born in Greece
4. Google is free
I hope folks know where to place the blame for the failure of student loan forgiveness. Say what you will about Joe Biden, but he did what he promised. And it was absolutely undone by the Court that his predecessor built.
My mom passed away 2 days ago. It is shattering to lose the person who was the absolute constant in my life. She was a remarkable woman who collected friends wherever she went and loved being of service to others. I will love and miss her forever.
I'm old enough to remember when Gloria Reuben left ER, at the height of the show's popularity, to be a backup singer on Tina Turner's 24-7 tour and the entire industry was like, "yes,

The

's reporting reveals a highly coordinated effort to influence SCOTUS justices. THAT is the story. Also, why is this breaking on SATURDAY morning,
@nytimes
?
On a cross-country flight and my (unmasked) seatmate asks to use my USB charger. I agree... if he'll wear a mask. He agrees! And apparently, free markets are the answer to everything. Am I a libertarian now??
Justice Thomas saying the quiet part out loud... substantive due process rights originate in the discredited Lochner doctrine...
this won't stop at abortion. All of the rights linked to SDP are at risk with this Court.
Maybe Kate's prolonged and worrisome convalescence *wasn't* the right time for (her uncle) Gary Goldsmith to go on "Celebrity Big Brother?"
There. I fixed it for you,
@CaitlinPacific
!
Just read the warrant and the inventory list. That's a lot of miscellaneous secret/top secret documents.
And this is someone that almost half the country thinks should be our president.
The bar is so low, it's in hell.
This is really interesting. For so long, Thomas, as the only Black person on the Court, has gotten to frame race issues for his colleagues with very little pushback.
With KBJ on the Court, there's a competing voice and perspective on race. And he has to respond to her views.
Y'all.
I spent this morning chatting with THE BEST CHRIS (
@ChrisEvans
) and
@MarkKassen
about the post-Dobbs reproductive rights and justice landscape.
Is this what it feels like to capture all of the infinity stones? Obvs, yes.
Our convo drops on Monday, Details below!
NEW: On Monday, August 1st at 12PM ET, NYU Law Professor

@ChrisEvans
and
@MarkKassen
for a Chat on abortion law and reproductive rights featuring questions from our viewers across the country.
Justice Jackson subtweeting the Court's originalists with a meditation on the "history and traditions" of the Fourteenth Amendment's antislavery ethos. I wish she'd been on the bench for Dobbs.
The best part of this tweet is its complete disregard of facts. Conservative billionaire Richard Uihlein pumped floods of cash into Ohio to support Issue 1.
The projection is staggering.
👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽 Hey,
@DailyMailUK
, if a gainfully employed woman eating a $20 kale salad makes you clutch your pearls in outrage, you're gonna die when I tell you a guy who owns a golden piano and an actual castle ordered a brand new coach for his first day running the family business.
This will not be like the pre-Roe landscape. It will be worse. The only way to enforce these bans is to rely on a surveillance state. And we now have to technology to do just that. Buckle up, folx.
10 states where abortion is now illegal have sent Google more than 5,700 demands for location tracking data since 2018.
There's growing alarm about how police or prosecutors could use that data to target abortion providers or people seeking the procedure.
Heads up: This is the strategy. They don't need to win Congress. They just need to win the presidency and then the new DOJ can prioritize the enforcement of the Comstock Act (a law that was enacted in 1873 and has been unenforced, tho still on the books, for much of our lives).
Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito are clearly eager to revive the Comstock Act as a nationwide ban on medication abortion—and maybe procedural abortion, too. That would subject abortion providers in all 50 states to prosecution and imprisonment. No congressional action needed.
The comments on this tweet are insane. The idea that increasing the number of Black doctors necessarily means compromising quality and foregoing excellence and expertise makes it so clear how deeply ingrained anti-blackness is.
1) State charges so no chance of a federal pardon if convicted.
2) Charged under GA RICO statute, which carries a min 5 year sentence.
3) 18 others charged... which means, given the 5 year min for RICO, lots of opportunities for folks to flip and cooperate.

Such a pleasure to discuss the changing repro rights landscape with

So now the question is, did Gary Goldsmith know his niece had cancer when he decided to be in Celebrity Big Brother in the middle of Kate’s health emergency?
Meghan has nothing to do with this. Leave her alone.
So now the question is, did Meghan Markle know her sister-in-law had cancer when she decided to launch her lifestyle brand in the middle of Kate’s health emergency? Lol.

FYI coastal CA can be cold and damp in the summer b/c of the marine layer. It's not unusual for CA residents to wear heavy layers in the morning or evening.
But even without the temp change, if someone wants to wear clothes SHE bought, that's her business, not yours.
Just your weekly reminder that this won't end with abortion.... protections for same-sex marriage, contraception, and individual autonomy that are not explicit in the Constitution are up for grabs, too.
This really did not get the attention it deserved today.
Litigants allegedly holding prayer circles with SCOTUS justices who are reviewing their cases.
In Wisconsin, a woman bled for more than 10 days from an incomplete miscarriage after emergency room staff would not remove the fetal tissue out of fear that doing so might run afoul of state abortion restrictions.
Announcers for this Eagles-49ers game just spotted the First Lady in a box and of course call her “Dr. Jill Biden.” Wonder if she realizes what a wannabe she looks like insisting on this fake title. Get a real MD or just work on your self-esteem.
Not to make everything about SCOTUS, but the GOP super-majority that voted 72-25 to expel
@brotherjones_
is a result of partisan gerrymandering and other anti-democracy efforts that SCOTUS has blessed.
Some initial thoughts on Allen v. Milligan.
Media is trumpeting this as a "victory" for the Voting Rights Act. And it is. And I don't want to be a turd in the punchbowl... but this is pretty weak sauce from this Court.
Quick reflection on today's oral argument in Milligan. The outcome of this case seems pre-ordained given the Court's composition and prior stances on voting rights. But it was so heartening to see the Court's liberal minority showing up refusing to give in.
Is this real? Are we actually living in a TL where the legislature of Virginia is proposing to reform education by teaching its students that the Lincoln-Douglas debates featured Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass?
THIS!!!!! Today, SCOTUS agreed that the unlawful map it allowed to be used in the 2022 midterms was... unlawful.
This is a victory, but the damage has been done.
It also puts into rather harsh perspective the Court's unsigned, unexplained order in February 2022 that *allowed* Alabama to use its unlawful map for the 2022 midterms (like a similar order with respect to Louisiana).
Only Justice Kavanaugh changed sides from that 5-4 ruling...
Top Trump supporter Marsha Blackburn says Griswold v. Connecticut is “constitutionally unsound”
(Griswold v. Connecticut is the 1965 Supreme Court ruling that legalized birth control)
"Strong Families Make Strong Nations." "Reclaim America."
If you don't see the connection between the assault on reproductive rights and ethno-nationalism, you're not paying attention.
To all the naysayers (that's the G-rated term) who insisted that we were hysterical ladies and no one on SCOTUS was interested in revisiting same-sex marriage and contraception ... behold Justice Clarence Thomas concurring in the majority opinion.
Laying out the next 10 years.
Quick thoughts on Trump v. Anderson.
1) This could have been a one-pager....
2) But 5 Justices wanted to go further to answer questions that weren't on the table
3) Something that Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson called them on
4) The SS, EK, KBJ dissent is dripping in snark. 🔥
Republicans refusing to stand up and applaud for IVF and families? And refusing to stand up for Kate Cox, who had to leave TX to get an abortion in order to deal with a miscarriage and protect her future fertility?
I'm just taking notes here.
We all are.
The part of Thomas's opinion that is directed at KBJ is, frankly, unhinged. Leaving aside the utter weirdness of talking to your colleague like you're her elderly uncle who's done and seen more. . . the absolute disregard for facts and context is breathtaking. Emmett Till much?
NEW: Justice Brett Kavanaugh had to exit through the rear of Morton's on Wednesday night after DC protestors showed up out front. A Morton's rep told me: "Politics … should not trample the freedom at play of the right to congregate and eat dinner."
I am no longer running a struggly Zoom school, rationing toilet paper, and sterilizing my groceries.
Seriously, how did you forget a global pandemic in which over a million Americans died?
It takes real cheek to write
@WSJ
op-eds criticizing
@ProPublica
's reporting on SCOTUS ethics issues when you haven't yet filed your financial disclosure forms....
2020 was the best!!!! Homeschooling my kids whilst trying to work. Washing my packages and groceries because we weren't clear about how COVID was spread. Not seeing my elderly mom as her health declined because we were worried about infecting her. Good times. 🙃
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA): “I don’t know whether to call you professor or comrade.”
