If you want to want to understand bank supervision -- what it is, why it's so controversial, how it has been used to promote bank health and other aims, and how it may be abused by Trump 2.0, read great new book by @Petercontibrown and @SeanVanatta, and my review of their book.

“Supervision is both vital to promoting stability and is an inherently fraught endeavor. It is a site where the government exercises power in line with both technocratic and political ends,” writes @ProfKateJudge.

If only this had been posted a few days earlier. I would love to hear the Solicitor General try to reconcile this with the notion that the tariffs are not a tax. Chief Justice Roberts, take note!

Trump, who’s been trying to post his way out of the woods on a few issues, floats $2,000 tariff bonuses. (Inflation is still not great & above the Fed’s target. The federal budget is running a massive deficit, so the debt is currently rising and nowhere near being paid down.)

This is disgraceful. With US absence, Trump is handing China a HUGE victory on the global stage & needlessly alienating all G20 members. Allegations re SA are spurious per S. African political spectrum & fact checkers.

Bob Diamond sees the number of US lenders dwindling by 3,000 in the next two to three years as regulators embrace consolidation of the industry — a trend that he hopes to help accelerate.

"UBS Group AG’s chairman warned against looming risks in the US insurance industry, citing weak and complex regulations amid an unprecedented boom in private financing." The lack of any federal insurance regulator is a problem. https://t.co/xGQgJ29h2J

A non-obvious second effect of the enormous AI capex spend may be that it's masking the deterioration of the US economy under the surface. While the aggregate economic stats may look just fine, economy is becoming ever more K-shaped with the lower half of th economy struggling

Many Americans are going hungry. And many more worry about having enough food for their families. If this troubles you, let your voice be heard. Tell your your representatives in congress that you care. Tell your president that you care. Your voice can make a difference.
