CANNOT emphasize enough how many of folks' preferences are just aversions yesterday i spoke with a friend who "doesnt want to marry and have kids" and for the first one the real issue when asked, 2 questions deep, was looking silly and being looked at on the wedding day

"i would be so unhappy if i got that THEN" my brother in Buddha, you're unhappy NOW for something you're imagining NOW, once again

sometimes you gotta collapse the social uncertainty function into variations of "those that mind dont matter and those that matter dont mind"

was chattin with @nosilverv and for traumatic memories, short self-guided EMDR sessions have been really effective for both of us. what i dont have an effective answer for is 'disfunctional beliefs'. any of you got tooling that's close to deterministically efective for these?

i find a lot of ideas shared in tpot are very niche-dependant to function but there's a lot of self-veiling and they end up being shared as "broadly-available"

im not afraid of AIs with emotions but i kinda am fearful of AI aligners who deny theirs fr fr
"emotional theory in ai research" I collected takes from @ilyasut, @ylecun, @geoffreyhinton, @demishassabis and @RichardSSutton about emotion theories for AI research. @ilyasut: I read about this person who had some kind of brain damage, a stroke or an accident, that took out

Noting Wheel for the ADHD inclined is getting a aesthetic uplift thank to my friend Ian
for ADHD meditators, sitting practice can feel like 1000 paper cuts, so here's a friendly practice: the Noting Wheel. simply cycles through the 5 senses as shown and become aware of their momentary content, for ~0,5-1,5s at a time. you can even do it while reading this. when

you will have 10000 cravings and the quality of your experience will be determined by the relation to those that dont come to pass instead of those being fulfilled
i've read @IvanVendrov 'The Tyranny of the Marginal User' and cant stop thinking about writing 'The Tyranny of the Marginal Craving' but instead of 'why software gets worse' i want to write 'why happiness gets worse, not better, over time' the highlighted paragraph applies to

counterintuitively, the best time to work on suffering reduction is when you're happy and flourishing when you're going thru it, reactivity practice will seem silly instead of dealing with "real problems" but the challenges are made problems exactly because of your reactivity

checking twittor in the middle of the night just to see @nosilverv got beef😂
I usually port my stuff from Substack over, but this one has too many images. On Jhanas, Stream Entry, Reactivity, successfully (much) improving your baseline valence and how that changes things: https://t.co/K86f15bZNg

you can spam Self-inquiry and not focus on processing craving that much you can drop craving and not inquiry into some deeper conditioning around ethics and morality that much as well
When I wasn't on the path I was confused by realised people having sex scandals: shouldn't they be beyond them? Then I got on the path and found it relatable. But now I'm further along the path and find myself confused once again: shouldn't they be beyond them?
