This is actually true in most sub-saharan African societies: family/kinship networks will demand that any capital one accumulates be distributed to other members of the group. Unless you actively hide your wealth from your family, entrepreneurship is pretty much impossible.
I want to remind you again today, that if you were born into a poor family, you can NEVER escape poverty until the day you die. You will be struggling, with the hope that you would. It never happens.

reminder that whenever you are faced with an insurmountable wall regarding the internal workings of a company, you can always just drop your Whatsapp username, ask the person to message you there, and then pay them five hundred US dollars to do literally anything you want

@nosilverv War and security also become fractals There is no more monopoly on violence, but neither is total anarchy possible 2nd amendment everywhere Nuclear terrorism (nuclear leakage) is possible and almost certainly happens. It isn’t enough to collapse society but is enough to create

What this means to me is that LLMs are extremely biased towards the post-2008 noosphere. Which I suppose isn't that surprising (more data every year than all of previous human history combined etc etc) but I hadn't thought about and is also concerning.
This graph shows the publication years of books in a major dataset of pirated books. Now, here's something interesting: It seems that, based on their word prediction performance, America's most popular LLMs were all trained on this material!

🧵From @JonHaidt … This data is extraordinary. Why are parents still introducing iPads/tablets so early when we know it has negative effects of children’s mental health, long-term?

In the past people would have babies and just keep on living as they did before they had kids. Helicopter parenting is mainstream now. Even the alt right version of ideal parenting is just helicopter parenting with different goals.

Ok I understand now why you can't compromise one inch from schelling points like "free speech" : bc then you get purity spirals: there's no a stable equilibrium, you get PC -> SJWs -> The Great Awokening. It's a runaway process that can't terminate itself

Smart way to deal with this problem: *it* from *here* is literally unimaginable. To the point that any imagination is a hindrance, hence, promoting no imagination: zen has no purpose, zen is good for nothing

I find it really interesting how the phrase “forgive your parents” is used to describe two opposite inner motions Some people use it to mean suppressing resentment Others mean the process of making space to feel the resentment until it dissolves into a state of acceptance
