How do you survive an extinction? If Thrinaxodon didn't burrow, you wouldn't be here to Tweet, Facebook or Instagram🙏

The second fossil RC 62 is the holotype of Smilesaurus ferox and is nicknamed “Old Smiler”. This is the skull I used in the gorgonopsid reconstruction in Figure 2 of the manuscript. A close up shows off the fangs of this fine apex predator. 🔪 🔪 End/

RC 1 is the holotype of Dinogorgon rubidge, found by Sidney Rubidge after his daughter came home from school asking what is a fossil. This fossil kickstarted a passion for this Karoo farming family, inspiring Sidney’s grandson (Bruce Rubidge) to be a palaeontologist. 3/

In this cabinet are some very special Rubidgeine gorgonopsid fossils, currently housed on the Rubidge family farm just northeast of Graaff-Reinet in the Great Karoo. 2/.
