In the world of teaching learners with complex profiles, this myth is rife. It is one of the reasons they are taught lots of 'fluff' (Archer) rather than what their peers are being taught and what they actually need.
"Everyone learns differently." This is a widespread and widely debunked neuromyth. Taken from The MA Way - Ch7 (link in replies).

It's quite remarkable that in a single year, a journalist can acquire a better understanding of the science of reading than @EstynHMI, who, in the 20 years since Rose Report was commissioned, still don't get it? @WG_Education @AddysgEducation

''When the 2006 Rose Review confirmed that phonics worked best, the damage had already been done. Generations of children had been condemned to illiteracy by methods chosen not for their effectiveness but for their moral appeal.''
It is so easy to be wrong – and to persist in being wrong – when the costs of being wrong are paid by others.” Thomas Sowell’s line could be the motto of English education. Policy-makers get plaudits; teachers get the blame; children pay the bill. Link below

The Twitter algorithm is not being my friend with this so any retweets of the tweet below to help get the resources out to anyone who might find them useful would be great! These new sheets cover some common spelling mistakes - even amongst quite confident readers. 🔄🙏🙌
Fresh FREE resources added to the folder! These focus on reinforcing some of the more complex consonant sound-spelling correspondences, encouraging children to hone in on positional orthographic tendencies (which spelling is more likely where). Samples of new content in thread👇

Disappointing news for literacy teaching in Wales.
Please read Elizabeth Nonweiler's letter if you are a primary teacher or a parent with a primary-aged child in #Wales. 'Wales’s Literacy Plans Must Change'

Thank you so much @mollycul94. It's great to hear feedback from teachers, especially in the implementation phase. I'm excited to hear about your students' progress.
A successful half term leading the implementation of a new approach to phonics & reading within our CLD school. Can’t praise the work of Ann Sullivan and her @PhonicsforSEN approach enough. Literacy instruction can be made accessible for all with SEND. Excited to track progress!

My apologies to those who attended the webinar last Thursday. Technical difficulties meant it crashed unexpectedly half-way through! I have re-recorded the complete session and @AceCentre will be sending out a link to the video to all who registered.😊
Just a reminder about my free webinar with @AceCentre in October. I'll be looking at teaching reading and spelling to learners with complex needs. A practical focus.

When powerful people describe autism as a tragedy, it fuels the barriers that autistic people already face in society. We know this rhetoric causes real harm. We must celebrate difference, challenge stigma and speak out against narratives that devalue disabled lives. 1/2

A far-reaching article with implications for teachers in all schools, inc special. "A knowledge-rich curriculum is a carefully designed way to give students systematic access to the broad base of knowledge they need to understand the world they live in and participate in it."
What is a knowledge-rich curriculum? In any event not just facts, not just math and reading, and not elitist. It is the strongest lever for equity. And thus ultimately a matter of social justice. https://t.co/HxkB9bgwrn
