We can either be pure, small, and correct -- and on our own island. OR We can be inclusive, big tent, and a large coalition. The choice is ours.

The quality or availability of your medical care shouldn't depend on your zip code. Ask anyone: the Iron Range is facing a shortage of medical providers. Expanding the U of M medical school in Duluth helps the Range! https://t.co/jjKeT4uZvp

New sectors are emerging. We have to have all options on the table. I look forward to continuing the dialogue.

Hydrogen hubs require a ton of ⚡️. We can walk and chew gum at the same time. The Iron Range has resources in our wood basket that make us attractive. Cross-sector coupling only works when everyone knows what opportunities exist. And that is at an all-time low.

Where will the energy-intensive technologies of the future get their ⚡️? The Iron Range needs a mix of technologies as part of a diversified energy portfolio to power residential, large-scale industrial, and manufacturing sectors.
@MN_PUC is following law + science on 100% carbon-free. Law says zero-emission resources get full credit; those that reduce emissions get partial. Science will determine partial % based on Life Cycle Analysis. Just as authors intended & @LIUNAMinnesota supported.

Will there be plans to include this in the diversified energy portfolio on the Range? Is it necessary?

People already wait too long for Broadband service. Broadband permitting reform is part of the larger permitting conversation. It is necessary for efficient and timely service that will make a real difference in people's lives.

Development, activity, and investment across MN looks different than before. Who is doing this evaluative work on trends in Greater MN, the Iron Range?
For the last few years I’ve been saying I have the receipts the people are going downtown. Here’s what I mean. Corporate activity downtown for us since covid is down by about 80%. BUT retail(you hiring us vs your company) activity to/from downtown is up by about 70% since 2019

That's almost a 3-fold decrease in enrollment relative to the population decrease. Not pretty, but insightful.
A good question. The age breakdowns aren't as easy to get but here's what I could find quickly: From 2017 to 2022, the under-18 population in Minneapolis fell by 7%. Over the same period, school enrollment fell by 20% (!!!).

I love seeing more news items about the positive stories on the Range. I would love to see a follow-up on why operations want to go out of state. Is it permitting? Energy costs? Infrastructure? Transportation costs?
1) I nosed into some of the biggest iron mining news in a long time last week. It got me thinking about my place on the Range. I grew up here, the first in five generations to never work in a mine. I'm a writer, so I notice things. Here, you can't miss the mine dumps. [cont]
