Spouse was due to represent England Masters in 2024 but suffered severe tendon tear one week before realising her ambition. I watched her suffer through rehab and setbacks until, at the Great North 10k, she not only made the start line but won gold for England. I'm soooo proud.

Hope you're tuned in to watching Faith Kipyegon. I wasn't around for Roger Bannister but am really excited for this. (Shame the Nike coverage is a relentless barrage of vacuous psychobabble but you can't have everything).

Nearly done reading Blood Meridian. I had no idea that The Road was one of McCarthy's more optimistic and light-hearted books.

I don't get on X much any more, but it was worth doing it to come across this really interesting study. Well worth a read. .

Can we enhance interoception by controlling the heart? Thrilled to share our new study, led by @AshleyTyrer, where we use computational modeling to show that blockading peripheral noradrenaline uniquely alters awareness of heart rate & breathing!.🧵👇

Old age isn't the serene and placid experience that I'd always hoped it might be. Just pulled a muscle taking one of my socks off.

And she’s even kind enough to let me run with her sometimes, although she makes it look far easier than I do and I really dread her more intense training sessions.

Glowing with pride for my spouse who suffered a serious tendon rupture that stopped her doing the thing she loved most. She doggedly got on with prolonged rehab and today she had her first competitive 10k race in 2 years, running sub-40 and qualifying to represent England masters.

Critically, the set-up allows participants to practise biofeedback regulation under a controlled stress condition, potentially more closely mirroring the conditions under which they would need to employ the techniques in real life. (4/6).

Across two studies, she explored the potential for a virtual reality biofeedback game to train slow-paced breathing and then apply that in a stressful virtual “dungeon” where survival depended on regulating physiological responses. (3/6).
