Thanks for the tour around the River Rhee🧐really sad to see signs of Brown Algae in the headwaters & usually attributed to Nutrients & low flows☹️streams turned into ditches don’t allow the movement of silt or organic detritus making the problem worse ☹️ 🆘 #SaveOurStreams
Puzzled by this "River" Rhee at Fowlmere, that arises near Royston & at Barrington flows into the River Rhee arising at Ashwell; it's a trickle, choked with ominous brown algae in places, put has Fool's Watercress & Crack Willows & Aspens on its banks. #Chalkstreams #Cambs 2/10

If we'd never dream of letting Palace of Westminster crumble, why are we risking collapse of our unique natural habitats? Norfolk has 10% of the world's rare chalk streams - living, breathing treasures found almost nowhere else on Earth 🌏 Protecting them isn't optional.

Dirty Business on @Channel4. Brilliantly made, devastating. Water must be nationalised now. The owners of the private water companies jailed.

For various boring reasons we have to say that these are Hugh Grant’s views not ours, and that we definitely haven’t printed his post out and put it in a little frame on our desk

Thank you @pippaheylings asking for our precious, rare, beautiful #ecosystems to be protected from over abstraction and sewage ..we need to have our #chalkstreams part of the World Heritage Site status @UKLabour! @VerValleySoc @RiverActionUK @Feargal_Sharkey @RussellB1ggs

If a member of the public defecated on a public high street, they would be prosecuted. So how can is be acceptable for water companies to pump millions of gallons of human waste into public waterways and coastlines, avoid prosecution and get paid a fortune? #DirtyBusiness

Yorkshire Water fined £733,333 for dumping sewage in a Chesterfield country park stream. Events go back to 2018-2019. Company has 125+ criminal convictions. No exec ever fined/prosecuted. Fines announced in 2024 were later waived. The same likely again https://t.co/WCtiakFpVi

Chalk streams are the jewels in our national heritage. Today I'm presenting a bill to require the Government to nominate chalk streams for UNESCO's Natural World Heritage Status.
