if I can simplify it even more- the devs injected venom into the conversation around it from the start, and it inherently made for a venomous combative fandom-hatedom.

it's a free fangame but there's a lot any prospective game dev can learn about what not to do from the launch of this fangame.

add time to that and the result is that a lot of the fans have had to develop a smug attitude to be able to be positive about it, because a lot of the haters immediately went into an antagonist response since they were antagonised to begin, making both clash.

it means most people's first impressions of this was "oh I like SRB2K, they're updating it, let me see- oh it's just an elaborate way to tell me fuck you over and over". meaning those who didn't mind got into it, but most didn't just bounce off, but carried a negative response.

bad first impression. the devs were hostile to the potential audience, from rejecting feedback during development to a forced tutorial assuming the audience to be too stupid and where they had an unreasonable skill test to dare to prove they could skip it.

"but didn't he draw game sonic" look at the construction and anatomy, like.yeah it's game sonic in theory but it's clear that the structure is movie sonic, it's basically a modern sonic skin on movie sonic.compare that to how he's able to paint super goof

dell'otto is an amazing painter and that's self evident but also like.if you search his topolino or uncle scrooge covers, it's clear he can paint good cartoons too.so it does sadden me a bit they seem to just get him to do movie-based stuff for sonic covers

having a moment of immense annoyance with fan wikis and trying my best to remember it's just fans doing fan nonsense, even if official companies do also use them and thus errors in wikis can become errors in official material.
