Why hearing in noisy places gets harder with age, even with โnormalโ hearing This study links hidden damage in the ear's neural wiring to speech-in-noise difficulties and increased listening effort in middle-aged adults. https://t.co/nhfOhVgAg0

I'm generally not on this site anymore. But when I am, it's to amplify threads like this ๐งต ๐ข
My labโs 5-year NIH R01 grant, awarded to study gene therapy for hearing loss, was abruptly terminated. I want to share how this action has been incredibly harmful and disruptive, not just to my lab, but to the scientific process itself. 1/15

Final version is online @iScience_CP "Direct Targeting of Mitochondria by Cisplatin Leads to Cytotoxicity in Zebrafish Lateral Line Hair Cells" ๐๐ https://t.co/Nk2JM80UpN
Check out our latest preprint! Using live imaging in๐ to evaluate mechanisms of cisplatin-induced hearing loss, we show that sensory hair cell mitochondria are direct targets for cisplatin, and that cumulative metabolic activity increases hair cell vulnerability ๐๐๐
