I homeschooled my older child from when he was pre-verbal.He was diagnosed with DLD ( Developmental Language Disorder) at age 5. Taught him to read and love reading despite DLD and amblyopia. He’s 12 now, reading classics like Swiss Family Robinson for fun. I know my stuff.

At age 6, I suspected there was something wrong with my older child’s eyes. Turns out he has amblyopia. Just a reminder to get your children’s eyes checked.

@asemota Might be cultural, based on survival and environment. Lots of people didn’t have their parents buying them free reads, just textbooks. They know they should read but can’t imagine buying a book that isn’t needed for an exam.

@asemota No one attends a Tribalism class. Children subtly make connections from comments around them - school home and even books. I suspect we will be surprised to hear the prejudices our children have formed. It's our job as parents to actively help our children navigate those thoughts

@asemota If you consider how Maths is taught, - children learn the operations and steps then get the answer; measurement is abstract, then it’s understandable why. When my 12 year old couldn’t estimate the length of a road in our close, I sent him out with a measuring wheel.
