Single JobSeeker just hit $400 a week. How would you go if you were getting that little and were randomly not paid? 'Happy' #AntiPovertyWeek! #AbolishMOs and #RaiseTheRate Great piece from @AmyRemeikis on the current debacle: https://t.co/EmyXrsF2LZ

@KateEmerson88 @AntiPovertyN_SA have had a lot to say on this too, for a small city (Adelaide) they're a highly active group battling for our poorest.

Labor is trying to push through dodgy additions to their social security legislation that are a clear breach of the presumption of innocence and will see children going hungry. No Minister should have power to punish someone just suspected of an offence. https://t.co/zPdk8d9zkH

Fugitives wanted for some of the most serious crimes and sexual offences could soon be stripped of their welfare payments.

As well as @thelawcouncil more disability groups have come out to oppose the sudden introduction of new powers for police & ministers to cancel social security for people accused of a serious offence Ty @AutismAU @CMHAustralia @CydaAu @inclusionoz @NEDA_PeakBody @PDA_AU @WWDA_AU
Now @jec_aus has added its name to the list of groups opposing this draconian and underhanded move. These are the groups @tanya_plibersek has dismissed. She refuses to address concerns about separation of powers, due process and unintended consequences.

Many of the groups calling on @tanya_plibersek to abandon her plan to involve police and ministers in cancelling Centrelink payments for someone accused of a serious offence work directly with people affected by family violence. To suggest they do not take it seriously is vile.
So, @tanya_plibersek lost the public argument on this wretched amendment, allowing police to cancel Centrelink payments for ppl who have not been found guilty So she went on Sky News to defame legal, disability, & community advocates as well as Senator Thorpe revolting stuff

@Jansant @tanya_plibersek Tanya Plibersek was on the committee examining the power to cancel welfare payments for national security reasons in 2014. You can find her concerns in the Hansard. This is the very power Labor are seeking to extend to the judicial system, after cancelling such a proposal in 2022

@tanya_plibersek Here is the list of organisations the Social Services Minister has suggested oppose her unlawful amendments because they don't take rape or murder or child abuse seriously. Most of these are directly involved in stakeholder engagement with her office: https://t.co/RFfbnwJUPF
A reminder of who is concerned. We say again: If you think you're doing the right thing, you don't do it like this. You don't lash out, run from even the smallest amount of public pressure or seek to hide this amendment in an unrelated bill and reject all parliamentary scrutiny.

@tanya_plibersek Tanya—we've done all the work on this and we got everyone already. Right-wing media/audiences too. I would have thought your job is now concerned with apologising to the national peak body for Aboriginal legal services in particular for saying they support child abuse and rape.

It’s official. Labor has failed to sneak through its attempt to grant police powers to cancel welfare in this parliamentary sitting. They can now explain to the community why they believe such a drastic power grab should be waived through without scrutiny from the parliament.
@Kerrynne_Liddle @tanya_plibersek @MadgwickKath @JennyMi11374978 @ACOSS @senatorpennyqld @chrisrudge @SenCarolBrown @ej_australia @DavidPocock @nitagreenqld In stunning news, the senate has adjourned early, without the income apportionment bill coming back for debate. The next parliamentary sitting is in two weeks.

#BREAKING 🚨 FOI documents show AI-tainted Deloitte report was 'much worse' than previously thought (by YOU?) or disclosed. It appears DEWR Secretary Natalie James may have misled the Senate in relation to the conduct of her previous employer. ✍️ @Paul_Karp

Disability groups have released a statement: "We are deeply concerned that communities traditionally over-policed & disadvantaged, incl First Nations people with disability, would be at heightened risk" Ty @amyremeikis for reporting. Full statement here:

The minister is continuing to weaponise harm done to people subjected to violence, even when groups representing folks affected by it plead with her to stop what she is doing. The government is taking advantage of the community's natural emotional reactions to acts of violence.

Just what is the government's grand plan when it comes to welfare cuts?

We ask again whether the minister doesn’t UNDERSTAND these changes or is intentionally misleading the public. "It's going to have a disproportionate impact on Aboriginal people who are already overpoliced & disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system" @hmcglade
