Too many Australians have been touched by gender-based violence. This can’t be the norm for the next generation. Our government will continue acting with urgency. But lasting change requires a whole-of-community effort. Crucially though, it will take leadership from men.

Our new $300 million package to make the social security system fairer has just passed the House. One of the most important things this bill does is ensure the social security system can’t be weaponised against women experiencing violence, coercive control, or financial abuse.

Programs like Amplify are doing vital work by providing teens facing homelessness with safe housing and tailored support. We know how important it is for kids of all ages to access help in a crisis, that’s why we’ve invested $80m to expand child-centred, trauma-informed services.

These carvings reveal over 50,000 years of knowledge and heritage of the Ngarda-Ngarli people engraved into the hard volcanic rock. Every part of the landscape has a deep and important history.

Murujuga is home to one of the most spectacular collections of rock art on earth. As Environment Minister I was proud to support this nomination led by Traditional Owners to give this amazing place the recognition and protection it deserves.

I’m so pleased to see the Murujuga Cultural Landscape inscribed on the World Heritage list overnight. This has been a long held aspiration of Elders and the community, it’s great to see this recognition.
