New Tweeps! Hi. I'm Nick. I do weather things. I run a weather forecasting & education website ( ) and a weather app ( search your app store for Nickelblock Forecasting )
Check them both out to stay updated and educated about all things weather!
Reminder: This is what it looks like in many places close to the coast in Louisiana.
No electricity, no gasoline, no natural gas, no water, no food, no nothing. Literally nothing.
And the Heat Index is 105. Every. Day.
It’s Tuesday, September 7, 2021 - the start of our 10th straight day with 0% power in
#Lafourche
Parish. Cell phone communication remains difficult at best, and water service is touch and go.
Please continue to pray for us.

People often ask why I spend my time showing real, in-depth, and detailed weather information. Full of content and context.
Two reasons:
1. Most people enjoy learning
2. Learned people make better decisions
Living that
@LupeFiasco
life because I refuse to dumb down nothin'
I grew up loving the weather channel because they spent so much time talking about the weather. It was the tropical update, national outlook, and weather on the 8s!
I feel bad for kids who love weather today. They don't get the same quality programming that I got.
A colleague just reached out asking about weather. He asked because his parents flight -- from New Jersey to Houston -- was cancelled due to Hurricane Lee.
Hurricane. Lee.
In the open Atlantic.
No where near anything.
Operation Meteorology take:
Weather Models are getting so good that "doing" the forecast today looks ZERO like it did 10 years ago.
Yet when I talk to students they are doing, roughly, the same school work students did 20 years ago.
Why?
RE: Camp Shelby Incident
“At this time we’re tracking 22 injuries with 15 treated by medics in the field and 7 transported to local hospitals. - John Pennell, the chief of media relations for US Army Alaska
isn't it surprising that such a simple system is chaotic? Two balls start at almost exactly the same point, but their trajectories rapidly diverge after only a few bounces
If you're a local TV meteorologist and you use your weathercast to take passive-aggressive shots at your local NWS... Go pound sand.
You aren't helping anyone. Not even yourself. Just stop.
Since meteorologist is "the only job you get to keep but be wrong" then all these people got fired, right?
Oh, they didn't?
Weird.
Maybe you should stop saying that to meteorologists. Just an idea.
"A couple very concerning and unexpected cyclones are brewing off the coast of Africa... And they have their eyes set on us"
Bro. You are flat lying to people.
Funny...

is unchanged in intensity since Wednesday morning at 2a and

isn't even more than a swirl with a few orbiting, decapitated, thunderstorms.
But tell me again about how captions and pictures are made with meteorologist input.
I work on TV in market 168. I'm a meteorologist. I have been at my current station since 2014. I was on-air in market 131 before this for three years. Also as a meteorologist.
I am no less a meteorologist than someone in Market 68 or Market 31.
Yes, this is a sub tweet.
Posts like this are - at best - disingenuous and irresponsible...
At worst? They are purposefully misleading for clicks and engagement.
Real meteorologists need to be better than no context model posting.
Is this how I make a viral weather tweet? Just a zoomed in screengrab of a random model-rendered hurricane without any frame of reference whatsoever.... am I doing it right?
I'm not sure how to approach this topic, so I'm just going to jump face-first into the pool:
If you are a storm chaser / weather youtuber / severe weather tiktoker and you are wondering why the weather enterprise generally embraces Reed but scoffs at you, I'm here to help. 1/
I just got word that a family friend’s dad is going to die from COVID-19. And my “aunt” has it, too.
Friends, please stay home. If not for you, for others.
When a standard weather app changes a forecast every 6 hours, people don't seem to mind/care. But when a human meteorologist changes a forecast, "they don't know what they are talking about"
I'm a meteorologist. And I'd say 40% of my job is now creating and managing python scripts that handle cultivation, parsing, and evaluating of "Big Data" with some ML/AI work, too.
Last year, at this time, it was 0%.
The world is changing very quickly.
Forecasters! I would really encourage you to find all of the failure points when assessing a risk for severe weather before posting about how the SigTor numbers are sky high.
It could be bad, yes. But understanding why it couldn't is also important.
I received a hand-written letter at the TV station today thanking me for my time at WDAM.
I'm telling you, friends, there are no nicer people than the people of South Mississippi
Overheard while waiting...
"Why do people (in New Orleans) even try to save their stuff after a tornado? I see people rummaging through damage. Like, just throw it all away and start over"
Average household income in Ninth Ward: $34,373/yr or 38% of average US income.
Does anyone else ever stop and think about how your life's trajectory changed by making one single decision when you were younger? One that, at the time seemed small, but in hindsight was huge?
.......... something about this looks odd. but I can't quite put my finger on what.
Something about defying the laws of physics, though, I can't seem to figure out what.
If you follow / watch this person for accurate weather information I would encourage you to stop immediately.
I can't think of any *clean* words to say about junk like this.
If you are someone who feel as though market size determines if a meteorologist is 'worthy' or 'skilled' I would caution you against such assumptions.
There are many great Mets and a lot of smart people in some of the smaller markets across the country. They're doing great work.
To catch everyone up...
1. I’ve been getting robocalls and robotexts for four years because the previous phone number owner, Courtney, keeps giving my number out
2. I was added to a 20-person group chat with Courtney’s family that I can’t opt-out of
3. I am now Courtney
Research from
@WxCastle
suggests that you should STOP CHANGING THE SPC OUTLOOK MAPS.
Sorry, my caps lock got stuck. Let me try that again...
STOP CHANGING THE SPC OUTLOOK MAPS
Odd. It is almost like I can only seem to yell it, for people in the back.
The forecast tomorrow for south Mississippi is 75 and sunny. no clouds. no humidity. no storms. no wind.
four rainbows, too. one for each horizon. fresh snow on the ground.
that is the forecast. i won't let the science stand in the way of it.
How about we blame the real problem: Crippling student debt.
Seems that previous generations were just fine when they didn't graduate with more than 100k in student loans for a job that pays 40k/yr because they were told without the degree, they'd only get a min wage job
Last Sunday: EF-3 & EF-4
Today: Estimated-by-radar EF-3 or stronger
Wed PM / Thur AM: More severe weather possible
This weekend: Maybe more severe weather?
Next month: A break?
Following 6 months: Hurricane Season.
Lightning doesn't care if your are a liberal, conservative, or otherwise. It will strike you.
So, they delay the game until there isn't anymore lightning.
In this case, it got cancelled. Because of lightning.
@davidubben
Sad. Back in my day a little weather didn’t prevent the game from being played. Liberals have ruined the game. Made it soft. Too bad. These spoiled athletes won’t even play in some rain. So disappointing.
Alright stop. Accrete and glisten. Ice is back with a brand new edition.
Something coats branches so nicely, trees falling down both daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know. Cool down the warm nose, and it snows.
Next time you clown your local just-out-of-college TV person as "fake news" because they are part of the "elites" please know they are likely living in poverty. Making under 30k/yr with more than 50k in student debt.
I qualified for food stamps out of college as a meteorologist
Props to all NWS employees for their neverending efforts to save lives and property. And also their tireless efforts to accurately inform people when they are and - almost as importantly - when they are not in danger.
Your effort does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
I’m moving the GF today and opened a closet and saw this.
I asked: What’s in this backpack?
She said: Probably stuff from grad school. And Spiders.
I opened it and its full of pens, notebooks, and papers like she used it for class yesterday.
She finished school in 2011.
Before you howl "So much for Global Warming" please know that as the atmosphere warms, these kinds of wobbles in the Jet Stream that allow for ridic cold air to spill south have been shown in the modeling (for years now) to become more likely to occur.
The erosion of trust in Science that has taken place during the last three years is never more evident than when society is facing a problem that can be solved by taking corrective steps verifiable by experts in science... And no one does.
New friends! Thanks for stopping by... If you are interested in fun weather facts, specialized weather forecasts, and everything severe weather, feel free to check out
