This is why it will be so important for the #txlege to come up with solutions that are vetted, thorough, and implementable. The human instinct will be to rush and do something for the sake of saying we did something. This needs to be a slow, deliberate process.

NEW: In his first presser after the deadly floods, the Kerr County Judge said they do not have an emergency alert system. But we've learned that not only does the county have such a system, but first responders asked that it be triggered very early Friday AM. Some residents.

.@jen_rice_ asked me to chart how miserable it has been to be a weather (or really, science) communicator in recent years. And yes. Using a very detailed set of equations, I was able to graph it.

This is what happens when you mainstream objectively extreme and bizarre ideas. Not everyone deserves a platform to spread idiocy.

This is exactly why we rail on conspiracy theories. This is it. There is NO REASON for this. People have absolutely lost their damn minds.

A vandal knocked out News 9’s weather radar in OKC—then took out the cameras, but not before one got his face. Here are the details:

I am a big supporter of politicians acting immediately after a disaster. We will see what actually happens at the special session of the #txlege, but doing the right thing should be lauded and hopefully will help reduce odds of another catastrophe from happening again.

This is very good news. It’s even better news that it will cover other counties too.

BREAKING: Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha just told us Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has assured him he and the governor want lawmakers to discuss funding early flood warning systems for counties like his during the special session later this month.

Are they really this allergic to telling the truth or is this just the M.O.? Again, this is false. 100% so.

Another event underscoring why consumers of weather information absolutely HAVE to be vigilant to changing forecasts. North Carolina got somewhat surprised by rain overnight from the remnants of Chantal.

History doesn’t always repeat but it sure does rhyme. Another situation overnight in North Carolina where rain forecasts escalated through the day leading to some record flooding near Durham. More on that and the tropics and Texas rains today.

County officials were also wary of spending money. One county official opposed a $50,000 engineering study, saying the effort was "a little extravagant for Kerr County, with sirens and such.". 5/9

It is absolutely exhausting having to constantly stand up for our people and our science and correct the record and explain to people that there are reckless proposals being made by this administration that will negatively impact the country. Read @TheEyewallWx for more on this.

While the local NWS office did good work during this event, the reality is that these questions are perfectly valid and reasonable given the circumstances. And yes, the office is still understaffed if not comparable to worse off offices.

The “MSM” isn’t lying. They’re doing their job by asking completely valid and crucial questions since the administration has proposed zeroing out essentially all NOAA research in the 2026 budget and has fired or taken buyouts on hundreds of NWS employees in recent months.

The mainstream media is deliberately lying about the events leading up to the catastrophic flooding in Texas. The National Weather Service executed timely, precise forecasting and warnings, despite unprecedented rainfall overwhelming the region. Here is the timeline of NWS’s.

Getting a lot of requests to talk about the Texas flooding. Unfortunately I have personal obligations taking up much of my time the next couple days. I will try to refer to other experts on the area that may be able to speak clearly to the issues. There are many.
