AI art aesthetic vision that is rooted in modernism but simultaneously very contemporary and interesting to a knowledgeable (predominantly tech) audience 😃
MOST of AI/GAN art is a poor copy/fuse of 19th century and impressionism
that's why MOST of generative art made with Processing/OpenFrameworks looks way way better

I’ve resisted being called the AI artist but not anymore because what I’m making is art, it’s creative coding and it’s a widely fascinating area of cutting edge research - so yes, I’m proud to be an AI artist, public opinion be damned 😘
the lesson i'm deep learning is that whatever looks nice and charming done by a human hand would look mechanical and forced when is done with GAN however similar the texture is...
the quest is for a new kind of mark making - unabashedly done with machine but unique and beautiful
to respond to a lot of recent tweets abt AI Art looking the same: a perennial slide from my talks - to make something original start with something original - idea, training data, training algo - in that order
took me a long long while but i finally came to terms with the low ❤️/num_followers ratio - i learned there is an audience for my art however niche it is and i'm so grateful and appreciate your support so much 🙇♀️ 💐
Today is a good day as any to remember how many of us were jumpstarted by - and to celebrate knowledge and generosity of
@math_rachel
and
@jeremyphoward
who taught not only practical AI but self reliance and can do attitude ❤️
leave it to the
#cycleGAN
to take a pretty mundane sketch and turn it into something unexpected and surprisingly closer to the ground truth 🙃, a weirdly beautiful Fonthill Castle, built completely out of concrete, in Doylestown PA
i'd love to be proved wrong but it feels less and less likely that there will be any research around DL on small compute/less data - Google, FB et al are not interested - they want everybody to use their cloud and pre-trained models

Something i was thinking abt for so long has finally happened 😌

Me, preparing a talk about AI for art students: let me be honest guys, there is no such thing as wanting to be engaged with AI-assisted/augmented art and not willing to learn coding
mentioned this before but worth repeating - the
#gen2GAN
involves a couple dozen models i built for this project specifically; i didn't use any of my preexisting ones to avoid bias - if it resembles any of my work think it's only because there exists an artist signature
thinking of releasing a super small (~50) edition of my artist book, GANcommedia Erudita, to US based collectors, just in time for xmas, signed and numbered.
a teaser spread 🤗
absolutely humbled, and thankful to
@Vince_Van_Dough
for collecting all three

pieces; and how graceful and professional they have been through all the transactions 🙇♀️❤️
and of course to my amazing collaborator
@dmitricherniak

could easily be the most comprehensive and democratic form of educating and empowering ambitious and driven people to apply DL to whatever domain of their interest and expertise
so daily listening to fastai lessons is a good habit, worth developing💯
my watercolor teacher used to say: let the medium do it.
true that - so my sketch provides the foundation and then the network does it thing; i don't fight, just constantly tweak the

Never give up. who I am, the girl who grew up in far east of Russia and whose only aspiration was to move to Moscow? Now many years later has her work auctioned at Christie’s and Sotheby’s , at the same time 😳
they say don't compare yourself to others, compare yourself to who you were yesterday
so i spent my school years in a small town in Far East of Russia but in
2007 - became American citizen
2019 - gave talks at MIT and Library of Congress
2021 - making a living from my art
