In one of history's greatest brainwashing achievements, the GOP has convinced working class people that the ability of a few billionaires to accumulate obscene wealth is more important than healthcare, child care, education or climate change. Simply amazing.
As a history buff, I am horrified that a supposedly-intelligent SC justice is quoting a 17th Century misogynist who hanged "witches" in what could become a Majority Opinion. Some people probably think that's a small thing, but I find it unforgivable and frightening as hell.
Saw a report on MSNBC by Richard Engle. Turns out the primary reason the COVID vaccine research is so far along is because Chinese scientists released the virus' genetic code to the world last January, giving everyone a head start.
Fat Donnie didn't build this.
NPR had a story about the online radicalization of Robert Crimo, but they never mentioned the fact that he had attended a Trump Hate Rally. In fact, they said there was "no apparent political motivation" for his actions.
Do better, NPR.
In several Troglodyte states, including Tennessee, librarians can be sent to prison for having "banned" books in their libraries. Librarians in prison. In the United States. For having the wrong books.
Let that sink in.
It distresses me to see interviews with young voters who have a laundry list of things Democrats have failed to get done.They mean well, but they're missing the point. The most important issue on the ballot in November is democracy itself. All that other stuff is aspirational.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it looks to me like Manchin and Sinema are working as a tag team to sink the Democratic Party. Manchin agrees to one provision, but, oh no! Sinema objects to that! Then they switch roles. This can't be a coincidence.
It's being reported that Steve Bannon is behind the effort to subvert the Electoral College and crown Trump dictator. You know, the same Steve Bannon who was indicted for defrauding Trump supporters?
Jesus, Republicans, how many wet mackerels to the face does it take?
The Republican platform for 2024 is taking shape:
1. More tax cuts for Billionaires (pin this one)
2. Keep brown people out of the country
3. Persecute the LGBTQ community
4. Subjugate women
5. Dismantle American democracy
Did I miss anything?
Young progressives: Disappointed by Biden? I get it. Your concerns are valid. However...if you sit out the next election or vote 3rd Party, you're punishing the country, not Biden. ALL of the issues you care about would only get worse under Republican rule.
Think. Vote.
Sorry, but I have little patience for "progressives" who admit that Trump will be a disaster, but simply cannot bring themselves to vote for a Democrat because of Israel. They'd rather stew in their moral superiority while Trump and Netanyahu build luxury hotels across Gaza.
@andy23tran
It's pretty obvious to anyone who's paying attention. Among those nations, our healthcare system is the most expensive and least effective. That's what happens when corporate profits take precedence over public welfare.
I really don't think Trump will be stopped by the judicial system in time to keep him out of the WH. Even if he's convicted, he'll appeal. The voters will have to stop him. So, if you're thinking about wasting your vote on a third party....DON'T.
I don't care which side of the Israel/Palestine issue you're on, but if you're a liberal, and plan on voting for Trump because Biden's response pissed you off, unfollow or block me now. You cannot be taken seriously, and I want nothing to do with you.
On NPR, a former teacher says he was accused of teaching "CRT" because he taught that the Civil War was about slavery. Welcome to Troglodyte America. How long before they try to outlaw the teaching of Evolution again?
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that the Hamas attack was ultimately orchestrated by Putin through Iran. It has taken the world's eyes off of Ukraine, and it has created political chaos in the U.S., fueled, no doubt, by an army of Russian social media trolls.
I am more and more convinced that the majority of Republicans are political anarchists; they want to tear it all down, assuming they can become warlords of the wreckage. They want to destroy our fragile democracy and erect a Kleptocratic Theocracy in its place.
I like to avoid conspiracy theories, but these caustic demonstrations on college campuses look to be calculated specifically to split the Democratic base, right before the election.
Call me paranoid if you must.
My adult daughter is still vaccine hesitant, despite two close friends who have died from COVID. We think this is coming from her husband and their church friends.
It's heartbreaking.
I thought maybe a Trump supporter shooting up a July 4th parade in a wealthy white suburb might actually shock a few Republicans back to reality, but... no.... I guess that NRA money is just too sweet.
There are people in this world who build their identity around who or what they hate. Hatred is their primary motivation in life. In 1930s Germany, these people became Nazis. In the modern USA, these people are Republicans.
Per NPR, young people for whom climate change is the
#1
issue are moving away from Biden, because he "hasn't done enough." So, what do these people think will happen to their
#1
issue if Republicans take over?
Stop and think, people.
So, apparently, Fat Donnie's lawyers don't want to tell the Special Master which documents he allegedly "declassified". In other words, it was a lie from the beginning, and requesting the SM was just a stalling tactic.
Rachel Maddow's show last night confirmed what we already suspected: Bill Barr ham-handedly ran interference for Fat Donny on multiple occasions. It's really quite infuriating.
@garci32
Lots of cultural reasons, but I've heard that the GOP has invested heavily in Spanish-Language Hate Radio, much as they did with Southern Hate Radio back in the 90s. Allegedly, that's why they keep winning Florida.
@PoliticusSarah
@Acosta
I'd add Kavanaugh to that list, since the FBI never really followed up on the investigation into his past. Plus, we still don't know who paid off all of his debts.
@RossKneeDeep
If I'm not mistaken, that "government money" ran out months ago. Our local Wal-Mart has about 30 checkout lanes, and I've never seen more than 3 open at any given time, even on Saturday. It was like that long before COVID. I think corporate greed is the problem.
@wendy_resists
This reminds me of their fabricated hysterics when Bill Clinton got caught lying about his affair. They would call Limbaugh's show whining "How can we tell our children that the president lied?"
Disingenuous crap. Look at them now.
@Michell33650674
I can't say for sure either way, but anyone who thinks Trump and his minions are not that evil simply hasn't been paying attention. It's totally feasible, in my opinion.
@Mollyploofkins
It's reflexive within the Troglodyte tribe. They hated Bill Clinton and Barack Obama with equal enthusiasm, because they were told to by professional liars like Blimpy Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
I think a lot of "liberals" fail to realize the tightrope Biden is trying to walk regarding the Israel/Hamas conflict. Our relationship with Israel has always been complicated; it's not a Biden Problem, it's an American problem.
Even now, I still encounter alleged "progressives" who demand that Democrats "give them a reason to vote." Really? After all the crap we've seen from the GOP, you can't think of one reason? I find that hard to believe.
@christinawilkie
The way I see this playing out; Fat Donnie spends 3 days in hospital, declares victory over the virus. All the other toadies "infected" recover quickly, and they use this to justify Fat Donnie's no-strategy strategy in dealing with COVID-19.
If this happens, he never had it.
I've noticed something new on Twitter. Bots pretending to be sexy women are liking my comments instantly. I just ignore them, but this is something I've only started seeing recently.
@laurasessions10
This seems to be shaping up into a pretty big scandal. A Democratic Rep was on Rachel Maddow last night, and she said there were MAGAt groups all over the Capitol on the 5th.
Inflation is a global problem. Biden didn't cause it, and there isn't much he can do to fix it. Yet, millions of poorly-informed "swing voters" will blame him and vote for fascism in November.
@sarah_t_agate
Yes. They will continue to push this, because overturning Roe was just the beginning. To keep it alive as a political wedge issue, they'll keep pushing toward more draconian restrictions and punishments.
I understand that Trump is a threat, and we need to say so every day. However, he's not alone. He is surrounded by manipulators who put these fascist ideas in his head....because Donald Goddam Trump never had an original thought in his life.
@bradheath
We've seen several videos of Capitol Police officers motioning the crowd along toward the Capitol, like they're part of the group. I think this will be one more in a long list of egregious scandals for the Trump Maladministration.
@torriangray
Whenever Troglodytes yammer about being "pro life", remember these photos. This is what the anti-abortion movement has always been about; controlling women.
@thejackhopkins
The facts are not on their side. Their strategy is to throw sand in the gears with endless appeals and motions, and run out the clock until the election. With enough cheating, he can waddle back into the White House and escape all accountability.
It's up to us to stop him.
El Salvador just re-elected their dictator, even though their constitution forbids a second term. They got around that by replacing judges on their supreme court. The democratic process can be used to destroy a democracy. You can bet Trump's handlers are taking notes.
@PamKeithFL
The Troglodytes are in a feeding frenzy now. The various Red State legislatures will be in a competition to see who can write the most draconian anti-choice laws.
NPR interviewed a trauma surgeon who thinks we should start publishing the crime scene photos from these shootings. I'm inclined to agree, though I'm sure some would consider it disrespectful to the dead. Still, I think it might make a difference. Hard to say.
Per NPR, the rate of stupid parents refusing to get their young children vaccinated is rising. We all know why. How long before Polio and Smallpox make a comeback?
@Mollyploofkins
This is the best explanation I've heard so far. By 2015, Republicans had already collected an army of braindead racist voters, perfect suckers for Trump's scam. 2016 was a perfect storm of greed, stupidity and bigotry.
@AndreaR9Md
All the networks are owned by billionaires, and the on-air personalities are all millionaires. They want their tax cuts. I think they also miss the daily dumpster fire that was the Trump "presidency". Biden's quiet competence is bad for ratings.
Hey, all you "non-racists" who voted for Trump because you didn't think Hillary could be trusted with classified documents.... I'd love to hear your thoughts now.
I really would.
Per NPR, young Arabic people are pissed off at Democrats because of what Biden is or isn't doing about Gaza, and young Jews are pissed off at Democrats because a handful of "leftists" posted pro Hamas crap on TikTok.
So, now they go rushing into the arms of Republican fascists?
@NotHoodlum
So, these billionaires can build super yachts, and private rockets for joyrides into space, but Republicans think it would be unfair to raise their taxes. Did I get that right?
The stress today is similar to that of taking a final exam in college, but magnified, because your final grade will be determined by millions of classmates who never attended any of the lectures.
I confess I'm getting more sentimental as I get older. I actually teared up a little when I saw the video clips of black girls getting excited when they saw previews of The Little Mermaid.
If that makes me "woke", so be it. I'll wear it proudly.
One reason COVID is hitting the U.S. so hard is that too many of us are unwilling to deprive ourselves of the unnecessary things we like.
Eating out, going to church, family gatherings, bars, sports events.
Too many think wearing a mask is "PC".
Selfishness is killing us.
School vouchers are a scam. Most will be snatched up by parents who already have kids in privates schools. Since private schools have limited space, and can cherry pick, most poor kids will remain stuck in public schools, which will now be underfunded because of the voucher scam.
@LA_SassyPants
@RobtS41169356
Or, maybe he used a private e-mail server at some point? That is, apparently, the one unforgivable sin in the eyes of Troglodytes.
So, the fascist governor of Texas is sending busloads of immigrants to Chicago. Why? To "own the libs", of course. What a petty, childish, irresponsible thing to do. How can people vote for these degenerates?
@Homeoffree61
@50Colleen2
Apparently, this is pretty common. I know a woman whose mother died from it, but she and her husband still won't get vaccinated. They have 3 small children.
The GOP brainwashing has overwritten their instinct for self preservation.
According to Fat Donny's website, his Crappy Crypto Cards have "sold out". Yeah, right. Let's see how long it is before he repeats the offer. It's an easy grift, with brainless marks...how can he resist? My guess is they'll be $199 each next time.
@NBCNews
Good. Schools have been sending kids home for not observing the dress code for decades. This is the same thing, but even more important.
There is no doctrinal justification for refusing to wear a mask; it's a political statement. Period.
@LqLana
Well, see, that's the thing. When bigots say they want to make America "great" again, they're referring to the time when they didn't need impulse control.
