I don't get a locker. No travel or accommodation expenses (my contract says I have to live close so that I can attend hospital promptly). No funding for assistance. Expensive parking. Buy my own coffee. Shared canteen with patients and relatives so have to queue for ages. 🤔

Sometimes the hardest thing is accepting you need help. With increasing numbers of suicides, mental health illnesses and burnout rates among healthcare workers, the time to speak up is now. This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme is movement. Physical activity

For every extra operating list ,clinic or shift done by a doctor or nurse or AHP ,is something else that’s building up and not being done well. Either family time, supporting professional activities , pt admin. Asking people to work harder and longer is not sustainable #burnout

It is an obvious thing but often gets overlooked Keeping hydrated & making it a priority is vital Going further to supply it for free shows how much you care about their needs (Especially for rotating staff who can’t keep bringing tea/coffee/milk everywhere) @NeedsAtWork ☕️

Singapore General Hospital has a programme called Get Rid Of Stupid Stuff. I want to hear from NHS staff about the stupid stuff that wastes your time, patients’ time, and taxpayers’ pounds. Let me know how you think we can deliver a better NHS here 👇 https://t.co/jSx7vTnY5C

Did you know that almost a third of healthcare staff feel burnt out because of their work? Among the signs for burn out are feeling tired or drained all the time, difficulty sleeping, overwhelmed, or feeling isolated. Ambulance staff and nurses are the top two professions in

Please, for the sake of NHS, do not treat your international workforce so badly. Imagine starting a new job in a foreign country & on the first day of the job you are told that the job you applied for isn't there anymore & you need to do another job or leave. Supporting IMG

@AmandaPritchard Thankyou Amanda this is welcome news. Please can you also look at preventative strategies to enable all colleagues to thrive at work. There is much evidence looking at what impacts our wellbeing and we must support leaders to support our teams 1/2 https://t.co/GYUDHsDhTl

@ChrisHopsonNHS @NHSPracHealth @NHS Why break apart one of the few NHS staff resources that is universally well-regarded, respected and hugely valued? Rotating junior doctors often can’t build up a relationship with employer specific support, we need something separate to what individual trusts can provide

When you are feeling stressed take a few moments to ground yourself & seek inner calmness. It doesn’t fix the problem but can help you think better about the way forward. Keep going!

Being present: Take it one step at a time. Focus on the now It can feel overwhelming with the constant burden of things to juggle Pace yourself & ask “What do I need to do right now?”

We need to break the cycle of staff leaving #NHS. There are things out of our control but there are some things in our control Do we look after them? Meet their basic needs? Develop them? Be flexible? Value them? Give autonomy? Create diverse roles? Recruit fairly? @NeedsAtWork

We so often bring our 'whole selves' to work - but do we remember to bring our whole selves home again? Stunned that my @TEDx talk has had over 500 views in 24 hours. I'd love your thoughts. https://t.co/FHS47ly5ds

@Sonia_Sparkles @NeedsAtWork Prioritizing staff's basic needs lays the foundation for a productive and positive work environment. Even small efforts like providing breaks, rest spaces, and a supportive atmosphere can significantly impact their well-being and productivity.

Want to improve patient care, productivity, retention? Start with basic needs for staff Love love love that quality improvement was channelled towards improving work environment- small things can make a difference Empowered to make the changes YOU need 💥 @NeedsAtWork
In F2 I needed a QIP, and instead of the usual VTE crap I decided to do something useful. The state of our doctors’ offices had always pissed me off and so I went about improving things, new chairs, more computers, more phones etc. Small things but made a big difference! 😎😎😎

Lets see how this applies to the foundation programme (generically, thinking about many of my friends across the UK doing F1-2 ATM) .... 1) ❌lighting and temperature: no, strobe lights and non-modifiable heating are standard 2) ❌parking: expensive, privatised, not safe
Hear lots about what organisations and leaders CAN’T influence for basic needs e.g pay rates, however, there is so much they CAN influence & should start to do so Even things that can’t be influenced, having honest conversations, empathy and supporting staff goes a long way

'Staff wellbeing' rightly remains a top priority in NHS. This isnt just an agenda item to be sorted, or a box to be ticked. It's about all of us- me, you, everyone we cross paths with. Exhausted. "How are you doing?" Let's ask. And let local ideas grow to look out for each other.
