Like this tweet if, as a woman, you’ve walked home with your keys in your hand in case you need to use them in self defence. If you’ve faked being on the phone as you walk past the man coming towards you. If you’ve changed your route. If you’ve started to run in fear.... 1/2

I was taught to drive by a retired police office and every time we saw a cyclist during my driving lesson he’d say ‘there’s a cyclist, what are they’ and I’d have to say ‘my responsibility’ and 20 + years later I still think this every single time I see a cyclist on the road. 🚲

I am incandescent with rage that a Black woman stood up to be heard 46 times and was ignored. She stood up to speak 46 times. FORTY SIX TIMES. When you’re told to try harder as a woman, when you think you just need to work a little bit harder, remember this. Forty six times.

I think one of the difficult things in the NHS is the erosion of hope. We are brilliant at getting through a crisis. But there has to be an end. A break. A getting back to normal. There cannot just be relentlessly more. There has to be a horizon. There has to be hope.

We have a daily £2 hot healthy meal for staff, free breakfasts and free meals for night staff. And free tea and coffee and free parking too @MKHospital - investing in basic provision is and always will be vital.

£6.50 for a coffee and a sandwich in my hospital. Enough to sustain a doctor for a 12 hour shift? @NHSEngland @NHSScotland @scotgov @GOVUK why are you continuing to extort doctors? Meals for NHS staff should be free, or heavily subsidised. They should be healthy, and 24/7

What is becoming a regular tweet to say how wonderful I think @BootstrapCook is - as a campaigner, writer, and human and who does not, in any way, deserve the abuse she gets on here.

I cannot imagine reading this visceral bile as Meghan. And the thing is, when you print this, you normalise misogyny. You make it ok to think women deserve this because they are living their life in a way you don’t like. You make every woman more unsafe.

Retain your staff as enthusiastically as you recruit them.

Obv there’s going to be loads of this sort of thing on the back of the NHS workforce plan. I’m actually v proud to be a pen-pusher. The pens I push do meaningful, vital things for staff and patients. If you’re a pen-pusher know that you are valued and your work is critical 🖊️

It strikes me that industrial action is a roar of ‘I want to stay’. If nothing changes that shout becomes silence as people walk away & leave. The fissures & fractures in fragile rotas become chasms. The gap between the workforce we have and the one we need becomes unbridgeable.

It isn’t going to get easier/ better for a long time and we have to find a way to get 1.5m people working in the NHS through that without breaking them. When we talk about well-being, retention, resilience, whatever, that’s what that means. We have to do everything we can.

People often ask me about the price of providing free breakfast, free tea & coffee, subsidised food, free parking… I’d like to pose a question back… what’s the cost of not doing it? Of increased sickness, high turnover, failing to recruit? The price is less than the cost…

We provide free fruit at the office. Last year we spent £17,000 on this benefit…well worth it in my book!

Thinking of nurses across the country tomorrow on what will doubtless be an emotional, challenging day. Today, tomorrow & always, you are our colleagues & friends. The skilled, critical roles you do & all you do is seen, heard, valued & appreciated. We are always one NHS team. 💙

Couple of little FACTS on GPs seeing 27.9 million people in one month. So every 10 weeks or so GPs see the equivalent of the population of the UK. This data is freely available at NHS Digital my friends. THANK YOU TEAM GP #NHS

Imagine if there was a single suite of policies and patient information for the NHS so that 200+ organisations didn’t all write and produce their own for the same things that happen everywhere in exactly the same way. IMAGINE.

People in comms and marketing. If you were kidnapped and your family had to tell the kidnappers what you did for a job, would you A. be held hostage forever B. There is no B, they don’t know, they’ve never known, even though you’re 45 and have told them 109 times #comms

When the Government was in apparent chaos, the NHS carried on. Local authorities carried on. Supermarkets carried on… the people working in key services carried on. They faced down their own fears. They carried on. For all of us. That is public service.

Sundays have been incorrectly branded as a day of rest when in fact they are a day of doing relentless housework until your untimely death from rage while putting away the Big Shop.

Lots of you ask me about cost for the stuff we do @MKHospital Retention costs less than turnover. Losing skills and experience, and needing to recruit or use temporary staff to fill gaps costs the NHS billions every year. Invest half that in retention and see what happens.

Dear #NHS staff. It’s ok to feel angry, upset, scared, exhausted. You don’t have to feel heroic. You’re human. You can feel furious, like sobbing, fine, terrified, anything else in between. You can feel all that in the five minutes before your shift. We’ll care for you too. ❤️

Yes, why doesn’t the woman in charge of one of the largest employers in the world, with a budget of around £192 billion, responsible for the healthcare of the country DO IT FOR FREE. 🙄😒
