Had not noticed previously that Senator-elect John Curtis of Utah broke with Trump despite his threat of a primary to vote against the bill in the House last night. An intriguing development

Democrats need 4 Republican votes to stop Trump in the Senate. To curb the most egregious parts of Trump’s agenda - starting with Gabbard, Patel, and Kennedy - Curtis’s vote will be essential. https://t.co/LXxEJbuNe2

John Curtis (newly-elected Senator from Utah) will soon go from unknown to household name. He will be the deciding vote in holding back some of Trump’s most egregious abuses. He suggested as much on the trail, but his reported “no” on Matt Gaetz confirms it.

Trump responding to this will just give it more credence. He knows this, so it’s strange they are giving this statement. Media spin is one thing he is very good at. Trump at the top of his game wouldn’t do this. Trump’s decline and easy manipulation already becoming apparent.

@philipaklein MAGA is not conservative. This means the Republican Party is not conservative. A frequent theme of the next 4-years will be conservative Republicans lamenting as they realize just how true this is.

For an offhand quote, there is a great deal of both wisdom and knowledge of history in this quote. It’s one of the most perspicacious things i’ve heard a President say in a long time.

In Hungary, Orban was able to divide and manipulate the opposition to clear away the path for radical changes. Combating Orbanization requires a political opposition that is unified, organized, and prepared to launch counter-attacks at every opportunity. 3/5

#RitchieTorres has become a heroic figure for Democrats alienated by their party's turn to an illiberal Jacobin identitarianism that replaces the old Communist class paradigm with an identity politics and in which Israel replaces the bourgeoisie as the chief bete noire. He's a

Progressivism, freedom, free markets, religious pluralism, & patriotism are all compatible. In order to save our country, we need to put them under the same tent. We are a great country with great potential. If we work for it, there is a bright & prosperous future ahead. /End

“There is another kind of progressivism, alive & kicking in working-class and immigrant spaces, & starting to fight back. Ritchie is its vanguard.” If Democrats can embrace the best parts of progressivism, which history shows us is possible, the coalition will be unbeatable. 6/

Democrats can be the sun party, but only if they take the advice Ritchie Torres & @havivrettiggur offer. If we don’t, MAGA is well on its way to capturing a populist/nationalist coalition that could legitimately be the greatest threat to our country in the last 175 years. 3/

We are in the middle of a political realignment, and the way it shakes out will define the next generation. Historically realignments have led to one party becoming dominant (sun party) and one party winning less but playing a dynamic role (moon party). 2/
