the trump admin is not saying “dc has high crime rates.”. they are saying a) there’s an abnormal amount of crime happening now relative to usual (there’s not, 2023 was our recent peak and the 70s-90s were WAY worse) . and b) it rises to the level of a national emergency (lol.).

i’ll see a rw account on here be like “well, libs are only acting sanguine about dc crime bc they’re not seeing what im seeing in Real DC” and then i see that they live in navy yard or arlington lol. everyone tweeting about this lives in the same 8 neighborhoods, relax.

i live in NoMa, an ~up and coming~ area with many homeless people. the only serious crimes i’ve noticed are car break-ins. i’ve never felt unsafe walking through my neighborhood, things have gotten better in recent years, and i could see myself living in dc my whole life tbh.
