In the middle of a climate emergency, did National think to check how much extra pollution and congestion there’d be from building unnecessary highways? No. They didn’t.

Met some friends from the industry this evening. Forward sales are looking grim. Of note: building companies have brought forward consent applications for houses they’re intending to build later in order to sneak in before the new insulation requirements. Bit pathetic really.

This is not surprising. @MBIEgovtnz has a history dating back to its predecessor of coming up with excellent ideas and then doing nothing to promote them. Hard not to be cynical here.

Building greener homes and offices could increase GDP over three decades by $147 billion, but advocates worry a programme to do just that is being slow rolled.

Heard also that Master Builders worried that 100-200 of their members are looking shaky and that this number going to the wall could endanger the organisation itself.

Why do BCAs block the use of drywall interior lining other than Gib abs why has @MBIEgovtnz never done anything to resolve? Sam Stubbs from Simplicity specifically said councils blocked use as not approved or not an alternative solution. https://t.co/z99491NMSR

As always, plan before you start. And then don’t throw the plan away.
We find no humour in this-it’s a huge disappointment. The lesson is the importance of building in consideration of digital networks when building big infrastructure. https://t.co/GEzqKadwzX Most (around 90%) of all calls to 111 are from a mobile and…

This is unlikely to affect you if your business now bc it’s being rolled out slowly and only where there’s fibre available or alternative connections, but it’s going to happen everywhere. And it’s a good thing. Moving to a digital future!
Some people who are using the old copper services – that’s your landline and your old internet wiring – need to shift to fibre and wireless networks. If you have questions, here's a good explainer from @paulbrislen on @SevenSharp

Red Stag Timber CEO, Martin Verry, acknowledging funding of the anti-mandate protestors. Meanwhile Omicron cases are doubling every 3 days. Seems very counterproductive.

We noticed that masks now seem to be optional on building sites.

New standards coming that will make our homes warmer and healthier are being dialed back. In this report from @rnz_news finds increasing width of walls to 140mm doesn’t affect timber supply. So why not @MBIEgovtnz? https://t.co/mayzf9NJK9

There are about 600 000 NZers who haven't had a vaccine shot yet. Please can you do it soon. Don't give up your job in protest. It's just a small teaspoon of medicine.

Comments on the builders FB pages we’re part of show an enormous resistance to getting vaccinated. The posts are full of the usual misinformation and ‘my body, my choice’ narrative. When Covid hits this attitude is going to make our tradies shortage worse as they all start to die
