I feel like I have good rapport with many students, but the effect of my rapport on student work completion/effort/ethic isn’t having the same reach it had in the past. Before, that rapport could encourage students to work/try. Not as much now. Has anyone else encountered this?

The biggest scam pulled on teachers has been convincing them to “do it for the kids” & vilifying them when they ask for anything for them (like a cost of living raise). It is a job. An important one, yes. But a job. It pays the mortgage. It’s not a calling from the heavens.
