This was a great listen. As a child of the 80s there was lots of context and history I'd never before connected as relevant to the Muldoon era

Breaking news: A leading cardiologist and covid scientist in the UK says the average age of referrals to her clinic has gone from 55-80 years-old before the pandemic to 16-40 years-old now. This astonishing shift seems worthy of media attention

Call me wild, but it seems sensible to still require people to stay away from school & work etc, while they have covid as it is now one of the leading causes of death in NZ. Why do some employers want staff to come to work with covid? Surely that causes more sick days?

@metlinkwgtn but please explain how if I turn up and do what I'm supposed to do, but you don't hold up your end, you get to penalise me?

@metlinkwgtn this really pisses me off. I tried to use your service. You are the ones who failed here. I wouldn't mind as much if you charged me the train fee, it was my mistake to not tag off afterall

@metlinkwgtn then this evening when I try to get home, I tag on at Wellington to be told that I'm charged another $10 because I intended to catch a train I had tagged on - for a train that never came

@metlinkwgtn I contributed $10 to her parking cost because I was so grateful to get a lift to my workplace, you know like commuting but by car.

Lucky for me an old friend saw me there and she had her car so we decided to drive in as our only hope of getting to work in reasonable time

@metlinkwgtn then a long while later as the platform filled up and no trains went by I thought I'd better check the app. Thats how I discovered the next train wasn't running either

I think this is right, but also people should be aware that chatGPT uses a training dataset and does not have access to the entire internet. As such there is a lot it doesn't 'know' is often wrong yet the replies are presented with absolute confidence

ChatGPT is everywhere and everyone is using it. But most academics don't know how to use it *smartly.* Here's how to use ChatGPT intelligently (and ethically) for academic purposes:

I’m shocked and devastated to hear that the brilliant climate scientist Will Steffen has died. I am deeply grateful to him for so many things - so here is a thread of 5 thank yous (and please feel welcome to add more).

Fare well sweet little cardboard ticket, you have served Wellington well, since like 1950 or something. Rest easy as you tag off, and we Welly commuters (finally) join the 21st century

I am so so sorry to hear that the brilliant Herman Daly - founding father of ecological economics - has died. His paradigm-changing work flipped my little econ head inside out & inspired me to write a book on rewriting economics… Here are just some of his big ideas 1/n.
