Arrived in Italy late last night 🇮🇹🥰
Disappointed by an unlocked Airbnb flat that hadn't been cleaned/tidied after the host seemed fab 😔
Meticulously took photos for feedback & irritatedly started tidying up at 1am.
Then realised...
Wrong apartment.

A family home.
I'm on a London bus.
A stressed woman gets on with 3 small children, no/very little English & cash. Clearly from abroad.
The driver tells her she can't pay with that and has to use a card.
Immediately 2 women get up with their cards & pay her fare.
Decent folk everywhere 😊
I'd brazenly broken into an Italian family home at 1am. With a 3yro.
Put my snoring daughter on their couch.
Photographed evidence of their slovenliness (fags & beer)
Used their loo.
All with no one waking OR saying a word.
(Probably cowering behind a door & phoning police)
"When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land.
They said 'Let us pray.' We closed our eyes. When we opened them we had the Bible and they had the land."
Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
RIP
I then had to pick up Thea and attempt to leave quickly & quietly.
Try to put the mess back in the right place.
Wash up my cup.
Go next door and then use Google translate to write a long snivelling apology to the family and try to explain myself.
Put it under their door at 2am.
My friend has her daughter in a private school.
They're already on school holidays and so they've flown off on a lovely holiday with ridiculously cheap flights and hotels - prices that skyrocket when the state schools break up.
Another £££s bonus to the already privileged.
Quick question.
On a train and there's a man who has set up a conference call on his laptop, no headphones and so we are all listening to his whole team meeting and his loud feedback.
This isn't reasonable, right?
Is it just me?!
An Airbnb host in Spain has declined my week-long booking of her apartment despite all my excellent reviews from previous hosts.
Asked a white friend to try for same dates and it’s suddenly available after all....
#EverydayRacism
I was asked to go to London for a meeting.
I said a polite no - an 'unreasonable distance'.
Arrangements were made and I stayed local.
I cannot now believe I used to race down to London for 2hr meetings and have a 7hr hour round trip.
One positive change - Never again.

Last night in Madrid
Idiotic young Spurs fan last night, in a street full of Scousers bellowed: ‘We pay your benefits!’
Scouse guy, four times his size and old enough to be his Granddad walked over and said quietly: ‘Don’t be a dickhead lad’
Spurs fan: ‘Okay’

Mum called.
Delighted to have bought spare pram for the baby.
Asked her to describe it and she said: 'My friend says its a bit EDL'
I've just seen a picture.....
This image of John Barnes backheeling a banana thrown on the pitch by a racist was so powerful to me.
It angered and inspired me.
He was my hero.
If this picture surfaced now, John Barnes would pop up on TV to say it definitely wasn’t racist and the fan was sharing his lunch.

I'm glad there is some joy somewhere in the world.
I'm sweltering in a boiling Salerno apartment as I dare not go out until I know the coast is clear...
Diane Abbott inspired me as a teenager and I thank her deeply for all she has done.

He spent the whole time explaining to excited Russians and others that he was NOT Daley Thompson but a Nigerian sports-loving social worker from Bradford.

Love My Yorkshire/Lancashire people and their priorities.
The racists clowns who tried to break this woman forgot she was raised by a strong sensible black woman.
Meghan knew her worth & so does he.
Happy Anniversary to the pair of them.

We are fabulous.

Inspiring conversation with 16yr old Clara in Saltaire, Bradford.
Found her chalking the names of all the US black victims of police brutality whilst under restraint in the past few years.
She's done the research.
She's also nowhere near finished...

I'm reading the tsunami of (thinly disguised) racist bile directed towards Naga Munchetty EVERY week.
And Meghan Markle
And Diane Abbott
And how many other black and brown women who dare to demonstrate their brilliance.
It's Exhausting. Depressing. Rage-Inducing and Pathetic.
I adopted a baby girl a few weeks ago.
This fact and this alone has stopped me from despair at the desperate and terrifying state of UK politics.
We have a lazy, self-serving, dishonest, entitled racist steering this ship.
A low point in British political history.

Mum is at the hospital.
The Dr. just told an old lady on the ward in a loud voice:
“There’s nothing more we can do now. Your age, combined with cancer- We’ve done all we can”.
The woman had no family with her.
The doctor just moved on.
Mum sat & held her hand as she wept.
@CatherineSimes
It's all good 🤣
They contacted the host because he sent an email about boundaries but I think my desperate Google translate apology letter did the trick 🙏🏾
I'm just in floods of tears.
This guy made a difference.
Teaching his poetry to children was magic.
He was clever and wise and creative and kind and had deep integrity.
I told him last year what a hero he was to me.
What a man. 💔
When does voting open for Sports Personality of The Year?
The other nominees should just form a circle of pride around Marcus Rashford, representing us all.
OF COURSE it's on my birthday that we receive the 100% confirmation that

Many years ago I was invited to a celebratory event at Buckingham Palace.
Arrived with my boyfriend and we were two rare black faces in the massive crowds.
I got a tap on the shoulder and
@HackneyAbbott
smiled, said hi, asked what I did & said congratulations for my work.
This is the story of Ahmed, who left Somalia for Rwanda.

Putting on an 'out of office' Adoption Leave msg for two months is such an incredible feeling!!
No emails - I'm emotional...
Huge week next week - Cannot wait!
Been celebrating today one year exactly since my adopted baby girl moved in with me.
We cannot win the league too. My heart can't cope.
I'm crying man. 30 years....
If neverending toddler-enhanced lockdown was good for one thing, it made me focus on achieving one small dream.

I try with all the positive affirmations of Black beauty with my daughter. She's 3 and I want her to always know that her skin & hair is just perfect.
I may have overdone it...
She ran up to 3 black women chatting today & bellowed:
HELLO AFRICAN LADIES! YOUR HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL!
When I adopted this beautiful baby, I swore to her that she would always be free to be whomever she wanted in this world.
To follow her own path.
To beat her own drum.
To find her own dreams
To create her own magic.

It's absolutely wild that James Cleverly made that "a little bit of Rohypnol in her drink every night" *joke* and is STILL in post.
He's the HOME SECRETARY!

THIS is how you say goodbye to the children who are temporarily not in your school. You show your appreciation and treat them like superstars. This is the

way. Keep making magic everyone until we reunite.

Twenty years since this sweet boy left us.
I was a first year teacher and my Bradford class were devastated. They held an assembly for him. What else could they do?
Rest in peace Damilola. 🇳🇬♥️
There's no defence of this nonsense.
The school has brought national condemnation on itself for absolute pettiness and a lack of understanding of family financial priorities.
Terrible leadership.
Holderness Academy has defended placing a child in isolation for wearing the supermarket version, insisting parents were made aware of the policy in June.
I yawned noisily just now. I'm totally shattered.
The toddler looked at me with her big brown compassionate eyes, left the living room, came back and handed me a Nespresso capsule.
“The very serious function of racism … is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being."
Toni Morrison.
I sometimes think the whole North/South divide is nonsense and basically we are all the same.
...but then my (very) Yorkshire four year old just asked if she could have "a new gravy jug" for Christmas.
Big grateful shoutout to a

I went back onto the Airbnb listing because the furniture looked different to what was advertised.
Then realised we were in the wrong place and re-read his instructions that were very clear about WHICH actual front door it was.
To the nasty bastards who mock her incessantly & think they're hilarious laughing at any mistake she makes, she will go down in the history books as a Cambridge grad, UK's first female black MP, much loved by her constituents and a Shadow Home Secretary.
She made a difference.
Working with kids in Manchester today.
Just had message from hijab-wearing Muslim girl asking if we can walk her safely to her bus, as the EDL are marching today.
Scum.

Oh man. 😡😡
Just pulled to one side by security at Stansted Airport who then checked through my HAIR!!!!
I can’t cope watching white women with thick long hair sauntering past and staring at me.
An Asian woman in a hijab just gave me a sympathetic nod....

and I’m approximately 4 weeks away from changing my (and her) life forever.
I’m adopting a little girl and have been guided and supported through the process by caring and brilliant social workers. 😀

There's plenty of us in the charity sector too who have faced our own personal Priti Patels and wear the deep battle scars of tangling with these vile creatures...

Quick question, have people got examples of phrases that are used like 'Hard to Reach' to describe communities of people failing to receive their fair share.
I'm compiling a list...

I was the perpetrator I’m afraid.
I smiled at a woman outside Holborn Station and said: ‘your hair looks amazing! Where do you get it done?’
Her eyes widened in fear & she backed away, obviously traumatised by my breezy brazen northernness.
I remember watching Grenfell thinking; THIS is the moment the UK people will stand as one & hold the Govt, all who lined their pockets & the cronies who stalled on legislation to account.
THIS will be our tragic line in the sand where we'll say 'No More'.
I was so wrong.
The cost of an Adoption Medical is around £80.

It was written on my daughter's James and the Giant Peach notepaper - all that I had available 😬
I'm laughing remembering because it had her scribbles on one side and I had to Google translate, "Please ignore this side!"
They probably just think I'm utterly bonkers
WTAF?!!
I named the charity I founded in 2007 'RECLAIM' to give hope and encouragement to black kids from Moss Side.
Imagine if it has to share its name with Laurence Fox's big idea.
2020. A year of continual crap gifts.
The new party - provisionally called "Reclaim" - could launch as soon as next month. The party's name is subject to approval by the Electoral Commission. Registration papers are due to be submitted in the middle of this week. 3/
My girl's childminder is a STAR.
Each week is themed - usually around different countries, religions, histories.
They eat the food from that region, she brings in community members to speak to the kids, they eat relevant food, they learn the dances, language.
