My book The Black Ridge is out in paperback on June 9th. If your dreams dwell in the shadows (of all kinds) cast by sharp mountains, I wrote it for you. Between now and then, here’s a daily thread of some pictures taken whilst making it. 1/14: Carbost, Cuillin, squall. #Skye

This story is insane… With the name tag and everything. Extraordinary find via @jimkchin @NatGeo
nationalgeographic.com
The discovery, made by a National Geographic team 100 years after the mountaineer vanished with George Mallory, could add new clues to one of the great unsolved adventure mysteries of all time.

Bought this, by @MrSimonIngram, a couple of years ago, but have only settled to read it today. Really fab description. Enlightening history. And an ascent of Ben Nevis in opposite conditions to those in which I was admiring it over the weekend from the Glen Etive Munros (pic 2).

Sad to hear of the passing of @alynwallace. He was one of astrophotography’s most vibrant stars. Sharing this story I worked with him on for #natgeo UK in 2019 filled with his images of many, many more.

I've just been informed that Robin Campbell, perhaps the most knowledgeable figure on Scottish Mountaineering history (and so much more) has passed away. What a loss. Personally, I'll miss his kindness, wicked sense of humour and positive encouragement. An actual legend.

I've been writing for 18 years this year, to relatively little effect. The upside is that a moment like this is truly special. Up at 5am to slog for 2 yrs, & then your book appears in The Times. Sometimes life is magical. Whatever you do, just keep at it.

It’s tough being the forgotten Beatle, or the Arctic Monkey kicked out into the cold, reveals this drug-drenched tale of fired musicians

⛰️ Alongside local Highland communities & national conservation groups, we're calling for a major rethink of plans to erect ugly phone masts in some of Scotland's finest landscapes. 📷 = Torridon hills from Maol Chean-Dearg, by Allan Golder. More info: https://t.co/bvRDyXEWzo

Just re-tagging @LincsCC @southkesteven @highwaysagency @LincsCC_roads - please don’t wait for some pedestrians to be mown down or a car to actually land in someone’s living room to do something.
I wonder if @LincsCC_roads @LincolnshireCC @southkesteven are going to start taking this seriously now. Nasty accident on Stamford’s Conduit Road as drivers have to navigate ice skating rink conditions (again) 1/3

A bedazzling, colours-of-Christmas sunset. The bitter cold wind set my teeth chattering and my gloved fingers numb, but it was worth it. View from Red Point (Wester Ross) across the Inner Sound and Isle of Raasay to the saw-toothed swagger of the Cuillin, Isle of Skye.

An incredible explorer. #donwalsh
#RIP legendary oceanographer and explorer Captain Don Walsh who has passed away at the age of 92. In 1960, he and Jacques Piccard were aboard the bathyscaphe Trieste when they became the first to descend to the deepest part of the ocean, the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench.

Very sorry to hear today of the passing of Apollo 16's Ken Mattingly. One of the least captured on film, here he is during the mission. It's not great, sadly, but about the best we have.

For fuck's sake, stop stoking a stupid culture war and come up with at least one policy that makes lives better instead - preferably one looking more than 15 mthss ahead. Science is NOT in danger from "woke ideology", which is a bullshit invented culture war concept anyway.
NEW: Conservatives are safeguarding scientific research from the denial of biology and the steady creep of political correctness. @michelledonelan announces plans to depoliticise science at #CPC23

This is my daughter’s club. It is a kind, wonderful place where girls can learn to kick a ball, make friends and stay healthy. The decision by @TowerHamletsNow to give the club’s contracted training slot to a men’s team is a disaster for the 60+ girls who play each week.

Been here.👇Potentially very important advice
I had cause to call for an ambulance recently. It all turned out fine but long story short...there are no ambulances. You're on your own. Unless you're basically dead they aren't coming for you so make sure you have a plan for you and your family that doesn't involve a 999 call
