Possibly the most insane single exposure I've ever taken. Just as I asked my friend Jens to point at Comet 46P/Wirtanen, a meteor streaked underneath the open star cluster Pleiades (M45).
Jens - 150m
Meteor - 85 km
Comet 46P - 11 million km
Pleiades - 444 light years
A spectacular sight this morning as Venus and the Moon rose together. Here they are shortly after appearing from behind Sugarloaf mountain in the

I think I've captured the highest detailed image of the Milky Way above Stonehenge ever!🌌 I'll post some crops of the detail in reply to this thread and you can check out exactly how I took this photo over on my YouTube channel -
A couple of nights ago I captured an image I planned over 3 years ago. The Moon only gets into the right position in the nights around the full Moons of November, December and January, so there's only about 12 days of the year it's possible. (1/2)
A 5-hour sequence of the full moon fading into total eclipse and back again from Belle Tout lighthouse in Sussex (1 shot every 3 mins). The next time this is visible from the UK is not until 2029! Vlog coming on Sunday -
The Moon, Saturn and its rings (View full screen!). So last night there was a conjunction between our Moon and Saturn and this shot, taken at 600mm, even allows you to see the rings of Saturn
Distance to the Moon - 384,400 km
Distance to Saturn - 1.2 billion km
Finally I got to see

perfectly framed by the folding landscape of the Elan Valley and beautifully reflected in the water of Caban Coch reservoir. With most hunting for clear northern horizons, I knew I'd find solitude deeper in the valley🌌
Stoked to be announced as the winner of the 'Landscapes at Night' category of Landscape Photographer of the Year 2020. An old image but always remained a personal fav. Congrats to all who had success this year 🎉🌌 (Portrait photo needs a click)
Safe to say last night was one of the best I've had in Wales. On the Snowdon horseshoe above the clouds welcoming the Milky Way core back to the night sky. Cheeky SOOC...
I was 7 years old when my Grandad helped me spot Comet Hale-Bopp through his fancy binoculars. The sight of it must have triggered something in me becase for years to follow a comet became a staple feature in my dreams. Comet NEOWISE has been such a surreal experience 🌌
Last night's Full Moon rising being Galata Tower in Istanbul, a shot I've wanted for years and the reason I chose to fly home today. Now I'm on the M4 on my way back to rainy Wales 🌧️ Oh joy
Waited a couple of years for perfect conditions for this. You need the lake to flood ever so slightly to cover the jetty with 1-2cm of water. It also has to be timed with clear skies on a moonless night with zero wind to get those reflections and then boom... You're Jesus Christ!
I've yet to gather my thoughts after that ineffable experience. Dear I say it, a somewhat spiritual moment for me. The Moai heads have so much character, they feel alive 🗿🌌

Some more bioluminescent plankton along the

coast. Was a treacherous scramble across the rugged coastline in the dark but oh so worth it. Mars shining brighter and more orange than ever thanks to its closest proximity in 15 years and a huge dust storm going on

rising into the dawn skies above Exeter. Just uploaded the vlog to my YouTube channel so head on over and find out how to capture this beauty -
This cave was the only entrance and exit to this stunning beach in Portugal. The Milky Way lined up perfectly just as the incoming tide was cutting us off and pushing us back. Phew!
So excited to discover that the bioluminescent plankton visits Southerndown as well! A beach treasured with childhood memories, now made even more special

One of my most wanted shots on my recent trip to Chile was to capture my first decent shot of the Gum Nebula. It's the largest in the sky in terms of apparent size and is believed to be the remnants of a supernova explosion from a million years ago! 💥
Nothing was stopping me catching the

this morning, not even a 450-mile round trip to East Sussex! Was it worth it? You're damn right it was 😆
This morning's display of bright noctilucent clouds and Comet NEOWISE will be etched in my memory forever. The sky was flowing with molten silver, it was the most surreal dreamlike state I've ever experienced. Or perhaps it was the sleep deprivation? 🤔😂🌌
A location I've wanted to shoot for a long time but not only do you need clear skies close to new moon they need to occur on the weekend! To get to this location you need to drive through a military firing range which is closed off to the public during the week 🌌
The International Space Station passing overhead, the triangular diffuse glow of the zodiacal light, a faint region of the Milky Way and winter beauties like Orion, Taurus and Gemini. What a feast for the eyes! Elan Valley, Wales.
Who the hell would live in Norway? There's all this damn green light pollution ruining our astrophotography! The adventure with

A panorama from the Snowdon horseshoe of the Milky Way arching over a cloud inversion. Couldn't have asked for better conditions! I just posted the 360VR version of this over on Facebook -

could do with a top up of the dust trail but Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle won't be returning until 2125!
I was pretty happy with my photos this night but when the Moon rose I couldn't believe my eyes. The landscape became so much more three dimensional and those shadows were 😍. You can watch this adventure in my latest Astro Vlog on YouTube -
Some video clips showing how metoers and comets differ to the naked eye. Meteors are bright streaks of light from a grain of rock burning up in the atmosphere. Comets are much bigger bodies made of ice and rock that orbit the Sun 🌌

If you haven't seen Mars lately you really need to! It's the closest to Earth it will be for another 15 years and it will continue to brighten until it reaches opposition on the 13th 🌌
Had the most incredible night of astrophotography at Fanal Forest, Madeira, last night. Such an enchanted, mystical location - certainly tried to channel my inner

🌌 Such an incredible display of green airglow during this night on La Palma in the Canary Islands. The red patches are nebulae that are rich in red glowing hydrogen. You can also spot the open star cluster Pleiades and the spiral galaxy Andromeda 👀
Never in a million years did I ever expect to photograph penguins with a solar halo 🐧😂 Check out my latest photography vlog from Antarctica over on YouTube. Many saying it's my best video yet and there's not even any night sky footage in it -
Last night with the workshop group in Tenerife. Taking them to this cracking location, overlooking a volcanic crater and up towards Mt Teide and the Milky Way beyond
Once every 8 years Venus passes through the open star cluster, Pleiades. Tonight is that night and we have clear skies in Wales. There's something seriously wrong with the world 🌌
65 meteors in 421 exposures captured in just over an hour 🌠 The Geminids meteor shower of 2018 was memorable to say the least! Comet 46P as well🌌New tutorial for meteor shower images exclusively on my Patreon -
Good morning! Couldn't sleep last night so I headed to the

for a play with the moonlight and mist. Could almost be convinced it was a dream...
Just posted the vlog from my adventure above the clouds and under the stars on the Snowdon horseshoe. Couldn't have asked for better conditions to watch the Milky Way return to the night sky -
🌌 Two Galaxies, One Comet ☄️
So pumped to have captured this rare event. After a 4 and a half hour drive away from the light pollution of Istanbul I was finally able to capture my first image of Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks. Looking forward to watching it develop into April 👀
Tonight's Full Moon rise was an absolute treat. I captured it rising into the pink band of twilight, otherwise known as the belt of Venus, above Carreg Cennen Castle in the

Last night during a panorama I captured something I can't explain. Can't be lens flare or sensor related because it was in exact same area of sky after panning the camera. Wasn't there when I shot same area 30 minutes later. Any ideas???
And finally, some crisp winter night skies last night in the

Just some of the shots taken at the Elan Valley for AstroVlog005. I put the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art lens through its paces by photographing the Milky Way handheld and then swear at shooting stars...

Where's your special place for self-reflection? 🌌 For me, it's this ledge in La Palma. Every time I visit I capture a new image to see how my astrophotography has improved and changed. It's also where I captured the front cover for my book -
The night before the peak of the Geminid meteor shower and I still captured 8 in the space of a couple of hours. And as incredible as this night was, it was nothing compared to peak activity the following night!

A great way to improve the detail in your astro photos is by shooting panoramas. Check out the 100% crops of this one taking with an 85mm lens 🤩 The setting crescent Moon provided the perfect light on the foreground and not too much to wash out the detail in the Milky Way 🌌
Just minted this incredibly special moment in time. As we emerged from the first long Covid-19 lockdown, comet NEOWISE graced the night skies as a symbol of hope and better things to come 🌌
Managed to escape last weeks bank holiday madness by camping at one of my last 'secret' spots along the Welsh coast. Check it out in my latest vlog on YouTube -
First capture of the Northern Light from the Brecon Beacons for me this season. Sadly not much structure to it, just a diffuse pink/red arc, possibly a subauroral arc?

Any plans you make for Iceland change as soon as you touch down and check the weather forecast. We chased a gap in the clouds for a few hours and ended up at this church in the middle of nowhere just in time for the first sub-storm
The summer nights in the UK are not the best for astrophotography but they do posses their own beauty. The evening and morning twilights are merged and the northern horizon never completely darkens but at least they're not as cold as the winter nights! Claerwen Reservoir, Wales
I've been eyeing up this composition in Tenerife for a while but being northwest facing I struggled for a night sky feature. Now with the Starglow filter, Cassiopeia is looking great with the spiral galaxy Andromeda now fighting for attention!
