An excellent doc explaining some of the difficult issues of elephants in Botswana. Importantly, with the exception of an anti hunting contributor from the UK, the voices are all those of people actually affected. https://t.co/2Y3GhQiH0w

Botswana has more elephants than any other country but conservation is complex

There have been a number of people in Kenya leaning towards this in recent years but this is a relatively high profile proposal. The reality is that conservation is costly. Kenya already allows trophy hunting in 2 senses - bird shooting and fishing. https://t.co/WDDGOpqT9A

This is real it seems. It is beyond belief
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally." The crowd in Pennsylvania then starts chanting "send her back!"

@AdamHartScience It is no surprise that this article was on the front page of the BBC. If there is blood in the water, the media goes running to tell the story. #ToothandClaw #TheDeadlyBalance

It's been quite something seeing this story develop. @juliet_turner6 was a brilliant undergrad @uglosbioscience & one of the best field naturalists I've ever met. Her thesis is stunning & I've no doubt she will be a star in the field. And she plays those trolls like a virtuoso 👏

Thanks Alex! In comparison, I’m sure everyone takes you very seriously when you claim to be a “Warrior poet, scholar knight, philosopher boxer, sorcerer scientist and oh so much more”
@juliet_turner6 In academic circles no one takes anyone seriously with a PhD if they ask or expect to be called 'doctor'. That is reserved for MDs only. If you say that you are going to learn quite swiftly the truth of my words. Congratulations on your defence however.

I’m sure having my photo shared in this derogatory way would be devastating if my motivation for getting a PhD was to impress this guy and women-hating friends. Thankfully, it was not. So I can just laugh about it instead. 😊

This should of course be "snaring"...
Sharing is a particularly cruel form of "off take". Many hunting companies do antipoaching work and support underfunded National Parks. It would be better if they shared more of these images and fewer hunting photos perhaps? Shared with permission from HHK Safaris and Zimparks.

“We have long known that poaching is a major problem in the United States, but we didn’t truly understand the magnitude of the problem until this Poach and Pay research,” noted Boone and Crockett Club chief executive officer Tony A. Schoonen 95% of US poaching is undetected.
For every poacher caught, dozens more slip through the cracks. The cost to wildlife? Billions. Learn how ethical hunters make a difference:

Looking forward to entering my 35th cold season as a driver and defrosting my car windows with hot water. I wonder if this year will be the one where catastrophe strikes... I bet it won't be 😅

I have watched a lot unfold this last week about Jane Goodall. I grew up in the 80s, obsessed with wildlife. She really wasn't a feature at this time - at all - and actually a lot of the chimp conservation work is a real lesson in the problems of conservation.
