10/12.Encouraged by results showing efficacy and fun, we’re working with @GlobalDevInc to get Tango out in the world. We’re running field experiments at universities and businesses. Adapting Tango for Israel, India, and N. Ireland. Developing a public online game.

9/12.Exp 4 shows that real-time cooperative interaction is key. A solo quiz with the same content doesn’t work. (Though @jgvoelkel and @RobbWiller and the Strengthening Democracy Challenge team had more success with our 1-player quiz than we did.)

7/12.Tango works without political content, but we see bigger and more durable effects with the political content in. A critical factor, we find, is mutual respect.

6/12.E.g., more conservatives watch Duck Dynasty, Stranger Things for liberals. (Based on data, not stereotypes) Conservatives are more likely to know that relatively few gun deaths involve assault weapons. Liberals are more likely to know that immigrants commit fewer crimes.

5/12.How it works: Players get paired up online, get to know each other by chat, answer questions together as partners, and win $. Some quiz questions leverage complementary knowledge about pop culture. Others get into political territory, challenging assumptions on both sides.

4/12.We show that Tango is *fun*. Across four experiments played in pairs, the median enjoyment ratings are a perfect 100/100 or 10/10, with rave reviews from both Republicans and Democrats:

3/12.In addition to being effective and digitally scalable, it addresses what @eranh75_eran and @Alex_the_Landry call “The Motivational Challenge” (: Bridging interventions have limited prospects if people are not motivated to engage with them.

2/12.In Exp 2, participants divide $100 between a random Republican and Democrat. After playing Tango once for less than an hour, those with outparty partners divided $ more equally 4 months later. We see 1-month effects on outparty warmth in Exp 2 and 4-month effects in Exp 3.
