Candidate for Congress,
#NY17
. Commissioner
@USCCRgov
. Frmr Congressman, NY-17. Champion for democracy and working families. A better world is possible.
I’ve never been Washington's choice. It's because I stand up to corruption. I battle with Republicans trying to overthrow our democracy & ban abortion, even as I push my party to fight harder for working people.
I'm running to finish the work I began. Chip in >>
Kevin, American troops are in the Capitol because you, along with 138 other members of your caucus, helped to incite the violent insurrection on January 6th.
Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Schumer—why are American troops who are tasked with keeping security at the Capitol being forced to sleep in a parking lot?
They deserve to be treated with respect, and we deserve answers.
If you think the Memphis police officers had to be white in order to exhibit anti-Blackness, you need to take that AP African American Studies course Ron DeSantis just banned.
I shared
@AOC
’s concern about being locked in the same room as my Republican colleagues on January 6th.
They had incited an insurrection, and were live-tweeting our whereabouts.
Some of them continue to pose a threat to everyone who works in the Capitol. They must be expelled.
Rahm Emanuel covered up the murder of a Black teenager, Laquan McDonald, while he was Mayor of Chicago.
That he's being considered for a cabinet position is completely outrageous and, honestly, very hurtful.
Weird that Lindsey Graham hasn’t figured out that the reason Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination is less controversial than Brett Kavanaugh’s is because she hasn’t been accused of sexual assault.
As a Black American, it’s really hard for me to shake what I just saw on TV.
It is an epic failure of our criminal legal system that Trump, having committed so many crimes in plain sight for years, was able to freely stand on that stage and announce his third run for President.
You disgraced your office on Day 4 and got a Capitol Police officer killed through telling a vicious lie that incited Wednesday’s insurrection.
New Yorkers everywhere are embarrassed by you. Resign.
Imagine trying to explain to the American people, who delivered Democrats unified control of government, that we didn’t deliver a living wage because an unelected parliamentarian advised us not to.
I grew up on food stamps. I cannot fathom how someone could take joy in the thought of people starving. This isn’t a joke. This isn’t a game.
If you want people to work, pay them a living wage.
Laura Ingraham: "What if we just cut off the unemployment? Hunger is a pretty powerful thing."
Bar Rescue guy: "They only feed a military dog at night, because a hungry dog is an obedient dog. Well, if we are not causing people to be hungry to work..."
This doesn’t sound legal...
One shouldn’t be forced against their will to be vaccinated.
The vaccination is there for those who want it, and are in need of it due to medical vulnerabilities.
Kelly Loeffler was an unelected Senator and inside trader who ran a deeply racist campaign that sought to divide Georgia voters.
Few people were more deserving of defeat this cycle.
Ran into the homie
@BernieSanders
this morning outside the Capitol building.
We got to catch up on what’s next for the progressive movement.
If this is what being in Congress is like, I can get used to it.
I get chills listening to my Republican colleagues describe voting rights legislation as a federal takeover of elections. The same argument was used to oppose the original Voting Rights Act.
I’m hearing
@RogerMarshallMD
has offered an amendment to the COVID relief bill to ban trans kids from playing sports.
Let me make sure I understand Senate rules here: Americans don’t deserve a $15 min wage, but it’s cool to attack and exclude trans kids in sports?
#LetKidsPlay
In February, Liz Cheney voted against the Equality Act, which would finally enshrine protections for the LGBTQ+ community in federal antidiscrimination law.
“I was wrong. I was wrong.” says Rep Liz Cheney about condemning same-sex marriage in 2013, a position that caused a split with her sister Mary, who is married to a woman. Rep Cheney says the sisters are now reconciled. “I love my sister very much.”
In his remarks about the integrity of the Court, did Justice Clarence Thomas explain why he didn’t recuse himself in a case about the insurrection his wife helped plan?
Asking for a nation.
Guess who’s repeal of the Faircloth Amendment just passed the House! 😌
Faircloth has blocked construction of new public housing in the United States for 20+ YEARS. Repeal is key to tackling our housing crisis.
THANK YOU to the advocates who‘ve worked so hard to get here.
White kids used to spit on my grandfather while he walked to school in the Jim Crow South.
Now I’m running to be the first black, openly gay Congressmember in America. Watch our first campaign ad & help us make history:
By refusing to take action before the clock struck midnight, the far-right Supreme Court effectively overturned Roe v. Wade.
This isn't hypothetical - our fundamental rights are being snatched away from under us. We must
#ExpandTheCourt
.
Republicans have been ramming through voter suppression bills around the country along party lines. Democrats can’t afford to condition protecting the right to vote on their cooperation.
Growing up poor, black, & gay, I never imagined someone like me could run for Congress. I’m proud to be endorsed by
@AOC
, who gives hope to so many kids wondering if there is a place for them in a world filled with so much injustice. Will you join us?
.
@MondaireJones
is a deeply committed fighter for justice.
He‘s a people’s champ rejecting corporate💰 who belongs in Congress representing Rockland & Westchester (where I went to public school!)
Let’s rally around Mondaire. I’m proud to endorse him:
Enough talk. Enough tweeting. We’re not playing this game.
Today, I sued
@realDonaldTrump
and Postmaster General DeJoy for violating the Constitution by undermining the

This has been the case for a long time, but since Wednesday, use of the word “divisive” has become an especially powerful tool to uphold white supremacy.
News: Washington D.C. City Council calls on President Biden use his authority to "urgently cancel student loan debt." The resolution passed unanimously.
It’s difficult to overstate how important keeping the Senate is to remaking the federal judiciary over the next two years.
Perhaps
@POTUS
will even get to replace Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court.
Mike Johnson built a legal career in Louisiana opposing the basic civil rights and civil liberties of the LGBTQ+ community. Last fall, he introduced a national Don’t Say Gay Law. Voting for him as Speaker is despicable.
JUST IN: US House Republicans have selected Rep. Mike Johnson as their next speaker nominee. He's the fourth so far in what's proven to be an uphill climb.
There’s been a lot of factually inaccurate talk about student debt cancellation today, so let’s clear a few things up.
President Biden has the clear authority to liberate 43 million Americans from the crushing burden of student debt. He needs to use it.

Expired license plates. Air freshener hanging from the mirror. A counterfeit $20 bill.
I am so tired of the excuses they come up with to murder Black people in America.
#DaunteWright
should be alive right now.
Rudy Giuliani’s incitement of a riot at the Capitol should bring an end to his destructive legal career.
The legal profession can’t tolerate sedition in its ranks if it hopes to maintain the faith of the American people. Check out my letter with Rep.
@tedlieu
to the NYS Bar👇🏿
We will hold responsible everyone involved with the attempted coup, including the attorney to
@POTUS
, Rudy Giuliani.
Letter from Rep
@MondaireJones
and me to New York State Bar requesting they investigate
@RudyGiulianli
to disbar him.
It’s not unprecedented for Congress to adjust the size of the Supreme Court to defeat white supremacy. We’ve done it three times before.
Here are some examples from our nation’s First Reconstruction. 🧵🧵
Manchin: “I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening binds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For the People Act. Furthermore, I will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster.”
Sen. Joe Manchin was an original cosponsor of the
#ForThePeopleAct
last Congress. The GOP refused to support it back then, too.
Does anyone know why he changed his mind?
It’s true. Had
@AOC
not run for Congress in ‘18, I doubt I would’ve announced my own long-shot bid last summer. She shows us what’s possible, against conventional wisdom. The best leaders in American politics are able to will things into existence.
.
@BernieSanders
called me earlier. I thanked him for everything & told him that so many young people were hurting over the results of his race, but they’ve channeled their energy to races like mine to build a bench of progressive leaders. We can still chart a brighter future.
You went to Harvard too, Bill. I know you can read the poll I linked.
Anyway, Joe Manchin drives a Maserati and lives on a yacht. I grew up in Section 8 housing and don’t take corporate money.
I know more about the lives of everyday West Virginians than you seem to think.
I'm going to venture a guess that
@Sen_JoeManchin
has a better sense than
@MondaireJones
--grew up outside NYC, went to Stanford then Harvard (not that there's anything wrong with that!) and seems to have then worked in DC or NY--as to what West Virginians do and don't support.
Refreshing to hear the Memphis Police Chief say that Congress must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. I hope
@SenatorTimScott
, who helped block its passage, was listening. The bill was supported by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the FOP.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” Mark 8:36-37
NEW: The DNC quietly dropped a call to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies from its platform, telling me including the language in the first place was an "error."
Activists say the party manifesto is now weaker than what Biden and Harris campaigned on.
Today, I was nominated to serve on
@HouseJudiciary
. To say I’m honored would be an understatement.
The committee has jurisdiction over so many vital issues that affect us: voting rights, the courts, antitrust, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights.
Here’s what I’ll be fighting for 👇🏿
If Joe Manchin really wants to condemn the American people to economic hardship and climate catastrophe, then let him take that vote.
@SenSchumer
and Senate leadership should bring the Build Back Better Act to the floor and let every Senator make clear whose side they’re on.
This is bizarre. And utterly dishonest.
In the 1950s & 1960s, the NAACP did extraordinary good helping lead the civil rights movement.
Today, Dr. King would be ashamed of how profoundly they’ve lost their way.
I spent all day waiting to vote to extend the eviction moratorium.
We are still in the midst of a global pandemic and economic crisis. To not do every last thing in our power to keep people housed is an unconscionable abdication of our duty to the American people.
Wild to watch the Supreme Court dismantle the Voting Rights Act on the theory that state legislatures have stopped discriminating on the basis of race, only to watch the Tennessee Legislature expel two Black men yesterday on the basis of race.
This time next year, I hope we still believe
#BlackLivesMatter
when someone tries to build affordable housing in our community. When the parents of black children try to integrate our schools. When gentrification is forcing black families out of their homes.
The next time someone tells the lie that progressives aren’t team players, remind them that we voted for the American Rescue Plan, are leading the fight for voting rights, and are fighting to pass
@POTUS
’ Build Back Better agenda.
Oh, and we got the eviction moratorium extended.
I won’t be sworn in as a Member of Congress until tomorrow, but I couldn’t resist stopping by our office tonight. Seeing my name on the wall still doesn’t feel real.
Thank you all for joining me on this journey. Tune into
@CSPAN
tomorrow at noon ET to watch as I take my oath!
Amy Coney Barrett thinks the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional. She thinks abortion is "always immoral." She is hostile to LGBTQ+ civil rights, & would vote to undo marriage equality.
Her nomination would be a direct attack on millions of Americans. We won't stand for it.
