Do not travel in Minnehaha County this morning. Several Highways remain impassable. Several cars have been left in the roadways after their occupants were rescued by Minnehaha County Deputies last night and this morning. Tow companies are not operating.

Deputies from the Minnehaha County SO assisted staff and volunteers with the delivery and distribution of lunch to the homes of West Central and Brandon Valley students in the free/reduced lunch program, due to the school being closed. 672 meals were distributed county wide.

Deputy Mike Walker retires today after serving 23 years in Law Enforcement. Mike has been the School Resource Officer for Dell Rapids Schools. Dell Rapids gave him a send off parade on Wednesday to congratulate him on his retirement. Congratulations Mike!

Maybe he could be identified and billed for all of the first responders who were pulled from protecting and helping others, and sent to rescue him since it was reported that he didn’t get out of the water. EM divers, Sioux Falls Fire, SFPD, MCSO were all involved.

This increasing amount of icing is creating dangerous driving conditions, and is hampering attempts to restore power in our rural communities and surrounding areas.
