WaPo has good article on electricity costs. More demand amortizes fixed costs of transmission & distribution over more users and ↓ prices. But cost of new gen is higher than depreciated cost of existing system, which ↑ prices. If new large loads pay actual cost of new gen (and

FERC is making moves (at DOE request) to take jurisdiction over large load interconnection at transmission voltages. Good explainer ⤵️

@RosnerFERC congratulations on a job well done as Chair the last few months and Chair Laura Swett #ferc on the new appointment. Together you can be a strong model of bipartisan leadership during this transition.

Credit where credit is due - this @ENERGY ANOPR could be game changing for facilitating new large load interconnections more affordably and reliably - by, among other things, incentivizing #speedtopower for #flexibility.

Buckle up, kids. @ENERGY is directing @FERC to assume jurisdiction over the interconnection of data center loads and others >20 MWs to the transmission grid, superseding state authorities in this realm. (And fwiw, that is probably not the worst idea!)

I am excited to work with my colleagues on Secretary Wright’s proposal. Getting large load interconnection right is a generational opportunity that’s key to winning the AI race, reshoring American manufacturing, and keeping electricity reliable and affordable for everyone.

Monday: I was telling an RTO official in another state that @FERC is getting serious pressure to ensure TOs do not delay expedited study RTO proposals like SPP HILL/GA. Just yesterday, I told a PUC chair that it's go time for slow utilities under state jurisdiction, or else!

DOE’s blockbuster proposed rule tonight also proposes accelerated and coordinated interconnection of loads paired with generation, echoing SPP HILLGA and other proposals. Lots to chew on.

In a major development, the US Secretary of Energy just issued an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking to FERC that would take jurisdiction of large load interconnection across the US and require expedited connection of flexible loads: https://t.co/AS2rbivUb2

Today, @ENERGY sent a directive to @FERC, under Section 403 of the DOE Organization Act, to initiate rulemaking procedures and consider a series of potential reforms to expedite the connection of large loads to the transmission system. 1/

Roselle partner @MilesFarmer outlines thoughts on DOE's start of a rulemaking process at FERC on large load interconnection. This is MUCH better than the last time the Trump Admin kicked off a rule making process at FERC (in 2017 aimed at keeping piles of coal around)
