Buckle up, kids. @ENERGY is directing @FERC to assume jurisdiction over the interconnection of data center loads and others >20 MWs to the transmission grid, superseding state authorities in this realm. (And fwiw, that is probably not the worst idea!)

Monday: I was telling an RTO official in another state that @FERC is getting serious pressure to ensure TOs do not delay expedited study RTO proposals like SPP HILL/GA. Just yesterday, I told a PUC chair that it's go time for slow utilities under state jurisdiction, or else!

DOE’s blockbuster proposed rule tonight also proposes accelerated and coordinated interconnection of loads paired with generation, echoing SPP HILLGA and other proposals. Lots to chew on.

Today, @ENERGY sent a directive to @FERC, under Section 403 of the DOE Organization Act, to initiate rulemaking procedures and consider a series of potential reforms to expedite the connection of large loads to the transmission system. 1/
