Exciting, somewhat mind-blowing news for those of us old enough to remember this nuclear project cratering a few years ago. @SenTomDavisSC deserves much credit for seeing the potential here.

Santee Cooper just voted to advance a proposal put forth by Brookfield to finish the VC Summer construction. No additional financial risk to Santee Cooper was cited as one of the most important factors in making the choice.

DOE’s blockbuster proposed rule tonight also proposes accelerated and coordinated interconnection of loads paired with generation, echoing SPP HILLGA and other proposals. Lots to chew on.

In a major development, the US Secretary of Energy just issued an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking to FERC that would take jurisdiction of large load interconnection across the US and require expedited connection of flexible loads: https://t.co/AS2rbivUb2

PUC meeting starting now. Will include an update from ERCOT on large load queue and large load interconnection process. The queue is now over 200 gigawatts, up 227% in one year. Link to article in the reply. #txlege #txenergy 1/2

.@SanteeCooper advises members of the South Carolina Senate that it’s about to execute a contract with a consortium of private-sector companies to complete construction of two nuclear reactors at VC Summer — “a new model for nuclear construction that will protect ratepayers.”

Most battery economic calculations are a time arbitrage that assume infinite, free transmission. The potential is many times this because grid costs are fixed and higher than generation. Batteries can push wires utilization up by 3x and arbitrage bottlenecks, meaning $$$.

NEW at Works in Progress – @Vernon3Austin and @bswud on the beauty of batteries, which massively reduce how much redundant energy generation & grid we have to build. But what's holding them back is the lack of a price system in electricity markets. https://t.co/MoWDSIcTWN

🌞 The Cowboy Hat Curve, I like it. Solar and batteries are the future.

There a new 2025 peak demand record in ERCOT at just below 84 gigawatts. Wind & solar are providing ~40% of power needs on peak and all day since 8:30 am. The cowboy hat curve in effect today with lower wind mid-day, picking up when the sun goes down. #txlege #txenergy

Texas is killing it on electricity. Fastest demand growth in the country, and yet prices are mostly steady and low. Lots of solar, batteries, and gas. Easy permitting, abundant land, + rampant price competition in the market.

ERCOT putting up preposterous numbers right now Trailing 5yr Jan - July load already at a compound annual growth rate of 5.4% (and up 7.3% yoy…) Wholesale prices have completely broken traditional correlations in the last 18mo

#SolarEnergy smashed another record in @ERCOT_ISO today, accounting for over 40% of generation on the grid with a record-breaking 29,318 MW. As the #Texas heat soars, solar is bolstering the power grid with affordable, reliable energy.

Lots of other layers here, starting with interchange with other BAAs and what look like clear synergies from a combined Duke system, not to mention net peak loads and ramp rates. We'll see how it plays out in coming days. Stay cool!

How about generation? Solar showed up big during peak load hours. Nukes rocked steady. Lots of fossil and pumped hydro (DEC). Striking lack of battery energy storage compared to ERCOT -- for now.

The heat came. Duke saw peak load 3pm June 24 for Duke Energy Progress-East , and 4pm June 25 for Duke Carolinas. But both days were high demand for both areas.

Duke's summer performance in the Carolinas thus far has been instructive. In late June, Duke experienced a heat wave and obtained DOE authority to exceed power plant emissions limits during any EEA-2 periods over June 24-25.

Today was the highest electricity demand day of the year so far in Texas. Renewables again produced over 50% of the needed power at the time of peak demand. No conservation call, no energy emergency, no drama. Just low wholesale power prices—again. #txlege #txenergy

If you were appalled by your utility bill this month, you’re not alone. New Jerseyans are bearing the brunt of failures by our grid operator, PJM. And today, we found out they’re raising rates again. Here’s how I’ll address PJM’s mismanagement and lower your utilities 🧵1/13

There's a new solar record in Texas. First time over 28,000 megawatts. Broke the old record by over 1,000 megawatts. Solar provided 35-40% of the power needed most of the day. h/t @grid_status and @Clm1403
