If suicide is universally recognised as a tragedy when it happens in despair, why does it suddenly become β€œmedical treatment” when the state authorises it? Calling suicide healthcare does not change what it is. It simply reframes a desperate tragedy as a β€œservice.” Medicine is

As a GP and MSP, I believe that the assisted dying bill offers a safe, compassionate choice for those whose pain cannot be relieved. My article in @heraldscotland explains why.

Just one comment from someone who has also experienced the internal self coercion toward suicide and has fear if this bill is passed….. TERROR of going back to these thoughts…..

Doctors could be FORCED to kill patients under Scotland's suicide bill. There is NO provision for conscientious objection. This is totally insane. What happened to choice? Isn't choice the point of this bill? Tell your MSP to vote NO on Tuesday!

Scotland’s β€˜assisted dying’ bill, to be voted Tues, contains NO conscientious objection protections for doctors who don’t want to kill their patients. πŸ’‰ No wonder major medical bodies, and individual healthcare staff, are urging MSPs not to pass it! πŸš¨πŸ‘‡ https://t.co/bbafGUSe8z

Two paragraphs which sum up perfectly where we are with the Assisted Dying Bill. Its promoter claims perfection, medical professionals take the opposite view. I know who to believe.

πŸ‘ŽIT GETS WORSE BY THE MINUTE! Imagine giving money to fund palliative care & then finding it’s spent on assisted suicide services instead. This could now happen in Scotland, if the assisted suicide Bill passes, after pro-assisted suicide MSPs reject an amendment to prevent it.

The man behind Scotland's assisted suicide Bill appears to admit that in Canada, safeguards in their assisted dying law were weakened following a legal challenge. This would likely be what would unfold in Scotland if assisted suicide were legalised. It must not happen.

πŸ”₯ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL COLLAPSING IN REAL TIME! On a dramatic day in Holyrood, a SECOND medical body comes out AGAINST the Scottish Bill while MSPs debate in the chamber. The Royal Pharmaceutical Society in Scotland opposes the Bill after conscientious objection was removed.

πŸ‘ THE SCOTTISH ASSISTED SUICIDE BILL IS "FUNDAMENTALLY FLAWED" @SueJWebber states that no amount of tinkering around with the Bill would actually be able to fix the inherent problems within it. It must be wholly rejected.

πŸ™ˆTHEY DON’T WANT SCRUTINY! - Supporters of assisted suicide in Scotland have just rejected an amendment that would have ensured there would be a review of the effect of assisted suicide on palliative & end of life care services should the Bill become law.

Advertisements should in no way be promoting or entertaining suicide. They have no idea the mindset of any given person reading the ad. The height of irresponsibility πŸ‘‡

After 25 hours of debate at Holyrood, one thing is clear: many MSPs have serious, unresolved concerns about the Assisted Dying Bill. When the stakes are this high, uncertainty isn’t acceptable. If there are any doubts, vote no.

@benzosarebad @RightToLifeUK @brenmcl The difference is that, until now, the choices - sometimes difficult for some people - are directed at healing and sustaining life. With assisted suicide on the menu the choice is much more momentous: between life and death.
