This whole line of argument seeks to turn a question of ecclesiological truth into an internal dispute about marketing strategy. It’s disedifying and ultimately irrelevant.
“If the younger clergy aggressively push their political and theological views on the Catholic people, church attendance will continue downward, and fewer Americans will identify as Catholic.” 🤡🤡🤡

I briefly thought he was talking about the former Lord Chancellor of England.
So happy for my friend Robert Buckland, who is now officially an “SJ” after taking vows this morning at Fordham University Church. Robert is a Belizean & was CTO of a regional Carribean airline before finding his vocation at our parish in Belize City. Deo gratias. AMDG

Peak bonkers comes shortly afterwards when he sets about remodelling her hair and, in response to her protests, says, “It’s only your hair.”
In the store, Judy, realizing that Scottie is transforming her into Madeleine, makes to go, and bumps into a mirror. Scottie joins her in front of the mirror. A fabulous shot shows us ‘all four of them’ together: he and his double, she and her double.

Very worrying.
While visiting Pope Leo's old Augustinian community in Trujillo, I asked one of the young friars who his favorite theologian was. He said Rahner. An important reminder that while the German Jesuit's influence has waned in the US, he is still *the* theological touchstone elsewhere

From @CatholicSOTC - the best photo I've seen of yesterday's Mass so far: brimming with life, full of young people, so many people that the altar of the Chair provided too small a space - it took almost an hour to give everyone Holy Communion, and many couldn't get in the

Starmer’s very first decision as PM was to cancel the Rwanda scheme. I wonder whether he is starting to have the first tiny promptings of regret.

It’s not worth reading an article by a man who can’t tell rent from ground rent.
The King presses ahead with talks aimed at persuading Prince Andrew to quit Royal Lodge amid a change in mood at Westminster over scrutinising royal finances. There are questions too for other royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales. My piece. https://t.co/8JdGpMiG75

Important commentary from @julianHjessop on David Smith's unusually poor Sunday Times column today on Brexit. One point I would add is that underperforming goods exports is pretty clearly mainly the result of high energy costs and the consequent slow destruction of energy
A few notes on David Smith's @dsmitheconomics latest Sunday Times column on the economic fallout from Brexit... 🤔 (TL;DR - I'm generally a fan, but there are lots of examples here of cherry-picking, dodgy data, confirmation bias and missing points) 🧵 https://t.co/bUcAUe50kd

A bold @UKLabour govt, on entering office in 2024, would have had half a dozen planes in the air to Rwanda the next day. End of small boat crisis. Fixing things. Showing ordinary folk they care. I said this at the time.
Nine months ago, the unexpected murmurs inside the Labour government were "maybe Dom Cummings has a point about Whitehall". Today it's even more heretical: "maybe there was something in the Rwanda deal after all". My @thetimes column

He starts with a pious nod to his parents (Tchaikovsky and Beethoven) and to his late brother (Shostakovich) but in turning to himself he starts with a mindless pop song. Where next?
His appearance on @BBCRadio3 today at 12.00 noon could change that. The real man will be revealed in his musical tastes.

Keir Starmer is at a lower approval rating than Rishi Sunak or Boris Johnson ever reached, at -45. It is genuinely difficult to see how this continues for another 3.5 years after such a disastrous (almost) 16 months.
