Ever since I had the pleasure of meeting Emil Schiesser (of the Apollo Nav team) at JSC, I've been amazed at how little we knew about the Moon's gravity when we landed humans there. Here's a little video that (hopefully) illustrates what we knew then and how far we've come!

This can't be a real address. It's a little too on the nose
"This raises the possibility of uncontrolled human conception in space, which poses a significant risk to the emerging space tourism sector." https://t.co/RfVd3AwOm4

Holy crap.... haven't paid attention in a while, but @SpaceX is almost done with the 540 km shell. Only two planes have < 18 sats. (2893 satellites)

Today: Orion flew directly over the Apollo 11 landing site, Tranquility Base. On December 5th the Apollo landing sites will be lit by the sun for pictures to be taken.

After four months on its way, CAPSTONE will enter its near rectilinear halo orbit day after tomorrow, Sunday afternoon. It this episode, we talk about CAPSTONE, its NRHO, and Gateway. Can't wait to see the spacecraft in action around the moon.
We've never had a spacecraft fly in near-rectilinear halo orbitβuntil now. Learn how #CAPSTONE, which is set for lunar orbital insertion THIS Sunday, will help pave the way for @NASAGateway and future #Artemis missions.π Listen here: https://t.co/SKn39oQjc6

Interested in Vulkan, Metal, WebGPU and DirectX 12? My company, a.i. solutions, is looking to hire a graphics engineer to work on our rendering pipeline and produce visualizations like these: https://t.co/PEKjIVpcVh

YES! Not crashing in space should be free. We love to see @sling_shot_aero on board with this mindset. It'll take all of us to make space sustainable. We're excited to share what Privateer will be contributing in a couple weeks at @amoscon. See you there!

Why didn't NASA do these comparisons to Hubble? Missed opportunity..... #JWST

This recovery is the best news I've heard all day
Yesterday, CAPSTONE experienced a communications anomaly that the mission team resolved this morning. With the spacecraft healthy and navigation solutions performing well, we are now working towards a trajectory correction maneuver tomorrow at 9:30MT.

And, there are currently at least 9 groups of satellites raising their orbits to the 540 shell.

Next week I'm hosting #FreeFlyerExpo by @ai_sol where users will be talking about how they use our astro software. π @MichaelVolle will be talking about #SpaceX #Starlink, among other great #virtual talks. Agenda and registration here:

Wow, looks like the force of capture would feel like hitting a brick wall a 20 miles per hour!
While we await ideal weather conditions for #ThereAndBackAgain, the recovery team has been conducting capture tests using a stage 1 mass simulator. Our pilots make this look easy! ππͺπ

Not another one..... Thankfully apoapsis for 13552 is ~490km, so below #Starlink (but still above #ISS), but it remains to be seen how much energy has been imparted on the debris cloud. π€ that the next several days are uneventful.
Reports of Russian #ASAT (anti-satellite) weapons test against a Tselina-D SIGINT satellite Kosmos-1408 (NORAD: 13552, INT DES: 1982-092A) occurring in the early hours of 15/11/2021. NORSS fragmentation modelling predicts a worst-case estimate of 1561 additional fragments in LEO

Earth-Moon L1 planar Lyapunov orbit viewed in the Moon-centered inertial frame. How cool is that. (Inspired by a colleague at Purdue in today's research meeting. A spirograph kind of afternoon.)

NASA's S-3C scientific satellite, the Energetic Particles Explorer D, named Explorer 26 after launch was launched on 1964 Dec 21 into an elliptical 310 x 26200 km x 20.1 deg orbit and operated for 2.4 years. Satcat number 963, it reentered 2021 Aug 23 after 56.7 years in space.
