One of the most pleasing moments of being a prof is when your students produce work that makes you sit back and go, "Wow! That's a great piece of writing. They should try and get that published ๐๐๐."

In the end, I suppose, unless things in universities change dramatically, I'll still be the arbiter of what is quality student work or not. If the wrong questions are asked, the wrong answers will be constructed. Looking forward to fall teaching ๐

and what questions you can ask depends on what you know already. Knowledge is still so important; poor questions-poor answers & you still need knowledge to establish veracity, authority and accuracy of an answer...that is what I think will distinguish students' from each other.

I've been thinking about how to 'manage' AI with my courses. I remember when powerful calculators came into classrooms. Teachers were worried then too. The same with computers etc. But there is one thing that holds true with using tech...you need to know what questions to ask...

Today's @RogersHelps outage has me wondering if it's a good idea to have a 'cheapie' back-up plan with another provider. I predict 100% this outage will not be Rogers' last, and being prepared is important. I'm grateful to still have a landline, and that it's not with them. ๐

Until a few days ago I seriously contemplated spotify...now, nope. You can't invite both sides of a scientific issue to your podcast, or even a booze up at the local pub, when one side spruikes non-science nonsense and wears tin foil helmets. ๐

Funny thing: If all the people protesting in Ottawa had just stayed home, got vaccinated, wore a mask in public, & reduced social interaction, the mandates would've all been over sooner. Now we have another super-spreader event inevitably leading to the same sad consequences. ๐
