We can’t assume students know *how* to learn. We have to teach metacognition explicitly. #LeadInclusion #UDL #EduSky #EdChat #TeacherTwitter

"Metacognition" is an extremely problematic word. Why? Most people lack the self-awareness to recognize what it is within themselves! It's analogous to logic; there are a lot of people who don't know what logic is because they can't think logically!

Writing down your thoughts is a good first step in learning metacognition. The next step is to question your thoughts; that way, you can get out of your intrusive thought loops. But it'll require mental energy that causes stress, which is where mindfulness steps in.

Everyone seems to focus on intelligence as the most important trait to determine success but it's more likely metacognition gates success more and there's more room to learn and improve it than some fixed trait like intelligence. @DefenderOfBasic
